    Default VR cutting springs

    hey everyone
just wondering why people say cutting your springs to lower it is so bad?
we cut his super low king springs today with a diamond cutter and took 3 coils of
it sits perfect as well as being a tougher spring to avoid bottoming out, inline with the guard and hes stoked with the results

just thinking weather they will sag over time or anyone who has first hand experience through doing this can let me know what might happen

What these blokes are trying to tell you is that you may cop large amouts of flack regarding your post.

I suspect the reason is that cutting spings is an illegal modification.

Apart from making the spring shorter, it also increases the spring rate. In some instances removing coils to lower it is offset by the rise in rate which means the car is not going to sit any lower.

If you removed 3 coils from some super lows then I doubt there is much travel left at all. Regardless of spring rate.

This will most likely produce less grip as the suspension is unable to do it's job and may well produce unpredictable handling over rough and uneven road surfaces. Not to mention the risk of the spring unseating when the suspension goes to full rebound.

But so what, it looks tough right! Thats got to be more important that a good handling, safe car.

thank you thats good to know
the whole point of a forum is to ask questions and get proper information right not get "flack" for a post
that was helpful, if they do start acting up or anything like that he will obviously go buy super lows or chuck the stocks back in

What the friendly folk here are trying to say, is that your mates springs can fall out and send him into the nearest power pole.
They are also saying that they are sick of repeating themselves about this fact

a search will bring up all the other threads on cut springs and why they shouldnt be cut.

the spring is made and designed to provide the best ride at the height it was designed for. as the spring compresses the spring rate increases so you feel less of the minor road surface imperfections and give you the best feel over the major imperfections. now that you have cut them, you have thrown out all the design qualities, yes it sits nice, but the ride has now been compromised. not to mention the legalities and now on full suspension travel the spring can unseat bouncing out the rear end of the car.

please tell your cuz to install the stockies and purchase a lower set of springs that were designed to sit at the height required.

Your mate should just buy ultra lows for the rear many people do that, rather then cut coils off superlows, it is just too dangerous everyone wants the dumped on its ass look, but safety always comes first I wish my car sat lower but eh still looks better then stock springs and handles very well.

ITS only because it can be unsafe, by saying that i mean springs can fall out, or the car can handle unpredictably, but that also depends on the car and the driver, you can find pages and pages on cut springs and how much c#nts don't like it, and how its illegal, personally if it dosn't make your car unsafe, or drive like its going to run into someone, i don't care. But i will say if you want to make your car handle good or even great, proper lowerd springs are the go for sure, if cutting them works go for it, just dont let the revenue raisers catch you...

So... first you cut the springs and then you ask why it's bad?!? Err... ok then!

    1. It's illegal
    2. It's dangerous
    3. It's ####ing stupid! A set of new springs at any height you want is 120bux. Your mate will have to buy new springs anyway when he gets done with a defect, so why not just buy them to begin with and keep the stock springs intaked.

At this point my advice is, tell your mate to get his piece of crap deathtrap off the road before he hurts someone else. I don't care if he hurts himself as clearly he's not the brightest blub but because of cheap arse stupidity he may hurt someone else.

Also, in future I recommend a search of the forum on this topic:
