My 93 VR has a duel fuel system installed.
Never had a problem until about 2 weeks ago, it stopped running on petrol.
Wouldn't start when the switch was on Petrol, though would on gas, and when switched back to petrol it would stall.
Pretty sure there's a problem with the Solenoid, which doesn't bother me as i am booked in to get it looked at and fixed, though this afternoon whilst driving home (on gas), i heard a very loud 'pop' sound, which i can't be 100% sure but it sounded as though it was from under the bonnet,
I then lost all power in the car, so i pulled over.
The car then wouldn't start at all, but i (for some reason) hit the switch to change it to petrol, and it started with no problem, and i drove home on petrol.
WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH IT?!!
Also (i don't know if this is related to the same problem), when i switched it back to petrol there was a 'sssshhhhhhhhhhhhh' kind of sound from under the bonnet when in drive, and would stop as i accelerated.
Sounded to me as though it was one of the belts, but i can't be sure..
Can anyone suggest what may be going on?
**UPDATE**
So i decided to update this in case anyone is having the same problem and wonders what it is.
I had my car looked at today, turns out that the solenoid was fine, and that there was more than likely just a bad blockage in the fuel pump, and somehow when the car (on gas) backfired, it unblocked it, though the back fire blew the top off the gas mixer, which was replaced for $40.00.
And the 'shhh' sound was simply just a shot bearing, so nothing major which i figured would be the case.
Hope this helps anyone that may be experiencing the same confusing problems,
And thanks for everyone that replied![]()

That's a good guess man.
I originally thought the first problem (car not running on petrol) was something to do with the fuel pump, but as of today now that its somehow switched back to petrol its running perfectly, not missing a beat. I will get this looked at though, thanks.
And in regards to the gas problem you stated, again it runs really well on gas. Would your guess have it run fine but back fire or make this 'pop' sound occasionally?
with the air box you should do the taxi trick and oky strap it so when it backfires the ockys just strech and open the box good trick
still do the oky strap trick cuz if you need to get a new air box you will want to protect the new one
there are five clips/clamps on the air box you can unclip them with your fingers to change the air filter but when they are cliped down they hold the box on tight so when gas gets down there and burns it can blow a hole in the box i have done it once at work now what you do is un clip them but then the box can just pop off as there is nothing holding it down so you get two oky straps from bunnings and strap them on so when the gas go's bang it just lifts the lid off the air box and lets the pressure out without breaking any thing
When it makes the "shhhhhhh" sound does it feel like it won't pull? If so it's leaning out.
