hey all,
i just brought my brothers vr commodore off him so i can tow around bike trailers, and im getting about 300kms per tank which im guessing is a bit above the norm since i dont really put my foot down in it, its just a commuter. the cars only done 137000kms and apart from the sunburn roof seems to be in pretty decent condition, just wondering what do u guys normally get from yours? and what are some common problems that makes it chew through the petrol?
cheers guys
just noticed i put 3.6 instead of 3.8.. oops. lol
I get roughly 500-650km out of my VS V6 auto, shes done 60,000km off a rebuild. I used to have a VP with sports exhaust etc and would get 400km-500km out of her and she had done 265,000km by the time i got rid of her. I think your getting pretty shit fuel economy, maybe give her a service and change leads plugs oxy sensors etc and see if that makes a difference....possibly try running her on premium for abit to get the shit out of the injectors etc.......i run E10 in my cars and every 4 or 5 fill ups run a premium tank.
The main items effecting fuel use other than the right foot
ECU temp sensor
O2 sensor
Bad fuel regulator
Blocked air filter
White 05 V6 VZ Executive - Thrashed Ex Telstra car
and 3 Dangerous non ABS VN's
I've been getting an average of 9.9l/100k over the last 3 or 4 months in VS wagon 220000km. That includes some city driving but also a lot of wide open roads at 110 speedlimits.
Why wasn't I born a millionaire??
VS II wagon V6 auto
Around 13lit/100km (400kms to a tank) city.
8.8 lit/100km highway.
City could be better but I have a heavy right foot.
If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?
I've kept a record of fuel use for the VR since I bought it new in June 1994.
Distance travelled: 203935 km
Fuel used: 21,054 litres
Average fuel consumption: 10.32 l/100 km
Extra things you could do to those mentioned by 88GreenVN include cleaning the throttle body, checking spark plugs and particularly, the spark plug leads.
my last tank i got 455 and that was with a fairly heavy foot
That's extremely impressive that you've kept recording that data!!!!!!!I've kept a record of fuel use for the VR since I bought it new in June 1994.

I have a Series 2 94 VR wagon, and I get per tank (68ls) 550+ on Eco. Can vary depending on where I travel and how heavy I put the foot down.
Current ride: 94 VR Commodore Wagon, Series 1 engine in a Series 2 body.
Wheels: VE SS 19's custom machined to fit VR.
Sound: Kenwood + matching speakers.
lol i havent got a heavy foot, save that for the bikeslol. but just changed my air filter today, will probably replace 02 sensor in the next couple of days
its easy as mate, get under the car from the passenger side door and look around where the exhaust comes down from the engine and you'll see some wires coming out of the exhaust somewhere, just grab an open ended spanner (forget what size) and undo it. they can sometimes be really really tight so just grab a hammer and smash the spanner till the sensor comes loose lol. installation is reverse
