Hey guys,
got a pretty big problem in the trans i think, its a 1993 VR auto that slips a lot between 3000 onwards pretty heavily, and is worse when the car is under load.
Im not saying im a fast driver, but it gets pretty annoying when you free rev half way through an intersection without drive for a few seconds before re-engagement
Took it to a trans shop a few weeks ago and he said the oil was as black as pitch, but when we took it out it was certainly past its time but not really black
So the oils been replaced, it still slips under moderate to heavy throttle applications, it sometimes makes horrific metal on metal grinding noises, and for about 2 weeks i lost Reverse and had forward use of 1st gear in Neutral and i dont have access to 1,2 or 3rd engine braking gears.
Any help on the matter would be heavily appreciated, im dont know whether to get a new box from EastCOMM (for those who know them) or re-co my one, so thanks in advance
Sounds like the trans is definitely cactus so really it's up to you - spend $500 or so on a 2nd hand one or spend probably more than $2000 to reco your box (or slightly less for an exchange). Remember the car may not be worth much more than this but if you love it and will keep it for a few years you may want to spend the brass. Good Luck.

just another thought you may wanna try that i just mentioned in another thread. before you go out and buy another tranny get your hands on some lucas transmission fix, its awesome stuff! i know an additive doesnt sound like it would do jack shit but i helped my slipping transmission ALOT recently (even though i think by the sounds of it your tranny is too far gone lol). also you may want to check out your TPS sensor (the sensor that is attached to the bottom of the throttle body) because when that dies it sends your revs crazy but it doesnt actually send any power to the wheels, cant explain the grinding noise though, thats definately a bad bad sign lol good luck anyways bud
a Faulty TPS isnt going to cause metal on metal, the box is ####ed.
Reco it for $2000 if you can afford it, because wreckers love selling stuffed auto boxes to people for $500, you get about 2 months out of them.
Thanks for the help fellas;
Ive been on the phone to some people, Knox auto will install a box i supply for $300, or re-co mine for $1500. And few others will install and supply for $1000, so im still a bit un-easy about which way to go but you've helped me realised the box is at least stuffed. So thanks for the help![]()
i have the same prob in a few commies all old commies have ####ed autos from lack of log books and tight asses i have my trans at the trans part of the company i work at and it's getting rebuilt it's the only way
