Hey guys how are ya's? This arvo i was out driving around and after a little while i noticed that when i brake and come to a complete stop right before the car stops there is a pretty noticable grinding noise and you can feel it in the pedal. I had a quick look around the car but it was getting dark and that so ill have a good look tomorrow, just wondering if anyones got any ideas. Its a vs v6 auto to, Cheers
you'll probably find that one of ur pads has worn away down do metal. so its the brake pad metal onto rotor metal and taht your ripping the hell out of you disc, if you have rims that u can put ur hands through just feel both side of the discs all the way round. until you find one thats all rough.. there will be ur culprit. and most likely if your pads were changed at the same time the oppersite side will be at a similar condition..
Yeah, sounds like its down to the metal.
Could be from a variety of reasons, though I find most common is when you have a sticky caliper.
I had this in my old Corolla. It'll be the pads. Change them asap. F***ed rotors is something you DO NOT need. Set you back a bit.
If your short of cash just get some cheapies as a temp fix. Then go out and get some decent ones come pay day
Thanks for your replies, ill get out tomorrow and have a good look.
While you've got the wheels off, check the front hubs for play. Mine had a grinding noise at low speed only when braking. Turned out the left front bearing was shagged. Pricey to fix, but what can you do?
If your brake pad is down to the metal you should be a least machining the discs (rotors) to restore the surface.
Brakes are not an area where you can afford to cut corners.
If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?
Just replace the discs. Cheaper than a grind. I got mine for $65 each. Simple to replace. And peace of mind that its all new.
IF IT DONT BURN FOSSIL FUELS, IT AINT A SPORT!
could also be the center bearing or uni's in ur tail shaft..

Well i pulled the wheels off today and had a good look, everything seems ok, plenty of pad left, front hubs are good.
Ill have a look at them bearings and that tomorrow.
Cheers
Any other ideas floatin round out there? so far everything looks and feels good. The noise is like when your in a manual and you go to put it in gear without the clutch in, like a grinding crunching noise but its only on that last sec before you completely stop.
Did you remove the calipers and inspect both sides of the discs and all the pads on the friction side?
Sometimes the pads wear with taper (sticking caliper slides) and look OK from the top.

Naa i didnt remove the calipers because i could see the pads from the sides aswell as the top and i just spun the discs around and made sure they werent scratched up and that.
How much pad was left?
The only way to be 100% is to pull the calipers off.

couldnt hurt to change the pads anyway? there not expensive, i will bet that its the pad, ive had this problem a few times
doin skids for the kids and doughnuts for the grown ups
From memory i'd say there'd be roughly 5-7mm of pad left all round they were done bit over a year ago for rego, but yeah ill have another look tomorrow. Cheers
it sounds like what mine does and mines the center bearing in my tail-shaft.
