hey guys
has anyone had a go at replacing a fuel pump in a vs ute.
it started to make some funny noises today. would rather fix it now before it gets me when i'm out.
cheers
thanks, is it as basic as pull out the tank and swap them over or is there a certain method i should follow?
just dont brake the return line off inside the tank, its connected to the swirl pot and pump. you have to twist the pump around on its self to get the whole unit out of the tank. Take your time and dont brake anything, lable the hoses going to the tank so you get them back in the same place.
thanks alot buddy,
i'll be giving it a go tommorrow.
When you remove it, try and remember how you twist it, so you can put it back the same way.
On mine, the float arm was bent. I guess the previous owner was trying to force it back in.
Also, check for leaks before you put it back. In the ute, the pump is further from the mounting
than in a sedan, hence there is a greater bending moment on the mounting. The manual says
torque 2 to 3.5 Nm for the pump-sender mounting bolts. That does not sound much. I think
2 is not enough for the ute, the gasket would leak. If you do the bolts really tight, the sealant
on the bolts will be pulverised, and you have a very slow leak. I think it is stupid how they made
the mounting holes right through. It should have a thicker mounting with blind holes.
