Default Help on replacing air con pulley (bearings?)

Hey guys, my aircon unit is making the scratchy noises we all love.
The alternator in my last car did it just before it seized on me.

Just wondering if I can replace the bearings/pulley on the aircon unit or do I have to replace the whole unit? My air con works fine.

i believe there is a replaceable bearing the the pulley part of the AC pump for when it is "free-wheeling" however i'm not certain on how it is replaced but i do remember reading about it a long time ago that it can be done without having to replace the entire unit

If its anything like most A/C compressors, it goes something like this.

    Remove belt
Remove the nut in the centre of the clutch assembly.
The clutch will slide off but you may need a puller to get it off. There should be a thread around the outside of the recess where the nut was for the puller to screw into. Take note of any washers or shims that come out with the clutch as these will affect clutch to hub clearance. You could use a small magnet to remove any that remain on the shaft.
With the clutch off you should see a large circlip around the nose of the compressor. This retains the pulley bearing to the compressor. Remove the circlip and remove the pulley and bearing. You may need a puller for this also.
With the pulley wheel on the bench, remove the other circlip that retains the bearing to the pulley. Press out the bearing.
    Reverse the operation to install.

NOTE: You must be registered to degas and regas air con systems.

The front bearing is replaceable and you shouldn't need to pull the comp if you are prepared to work in confined spaces! - I've got a tech sheet on the compressor but unfortunately I'm working in Kalgoorlie for a few day and my PC is in Toowoomba.
However, to find the data just locate the compr. model (Sanden I think) and do a google. Frm memory the tech sheet is produced by Sanden. Good Luck.
