Hey guys, im looking to give this old VS a freshen up. Im looking to do all the bushings in it. Its currently got a 27mm whiteline sway bar in there and im about to buy this as i figure it would be better then the standard links. COMMODORE HEAVY DUTY SWAY BAR LINK KIT VN VP VR VS VT - eBay Sway Bars, Suspension, Steering, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 28-Aug-10 19:51:02 AEST)
As for all the bushings and that im looking at one of these, i dont want to fork out the cash if its not what i should be getting. COMMODORE NOLATHANE SUSPENSION KIT ..VR and VS with IRS - eBay Other, Suspension, Steering, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 23-Aug-10 10:59:12 AEST)
Im only running a stock ecotec in it so i dont need something extreme, i just want to freshen her up by putting new bushings and bearings in (only bearings i want to change are the strut tower ones) and have a smother ride. Any tips or recommendations would be great thanks. Now i just have to sell the exhaust to pay for it all. Lol

Nolathane or superpro bushes will make it handle better but you will notice a rougher / sharper ride. If comfort is your priority use rubber bushes. \It looks like the right kit if you want to do the front and back, but it doesn't look too cheap to me. Check what repco will sell that kit for.
Cheers for that mate. Not to sure what i want, i guess half and half of handling and smoothness. I know for a fact this car has been raped so thats why i plan to do it. I might give repco and super shit a call when i have the coin to get them. Another question is some of the bushings, would i require a press or can i just give some love taps to pull get them out? I know with the IRS end i had to drill through the rubber/plastic to get the old adjustable camber and toe bushings out on another VS i worked on.

Don't buy these eBay link pins. The bushes are cheap rubbish. Buy the new Nolathane Ball joint link pins - part number 42997AX. They may cost more but upgrade the VR/VS sway bar suspension to be similar to the late VX/VY etc. models. You will always have problems with the old style of link pins no matter which ones you buy.
Cheers for the info mate, ill look into it.

You can get the old bushes out of the front end with the usual drill, hammer, punch, knife etc. The hardest one is the control arm inner bush which has a steel shell that you need to knock out and you need a press to install a new rubber bush, you don't need to press a poly bush in because it doesn't have a shell and can be fitted like the others are relatively easy using a threaded rod and packers. search it.
