Hi all, i have a VS Berlina and has a shocking , constant whine coming from the diff. I have been told that it is the diff. Was wondering if anyone had instructios on how to replace the centre. I have replaced diffs before but not a LSD, and from what i see they dont just bolt out. I have a workshop manual but cant find the section on it. any help is appreciated. Thanks
Is the diff IRS or Live axle? if it is IRS it is easier to replace the whole diff.
If you do want to replace the centre its just the same as an open. Rebuilding it is abit different tho. It depends what the whine is, weather is the crown or pinon or the bearings. Changing either the gears or bearings requires you to get it all alined about with minimal bash lash (if open) or very tight (if lsd) and make sure the gears mark up fine. Takes alot of ####ing around and shims. In my opinion get a diff specialist to do it, or just buy a rebuild one. IRS LSD in a houses all ready marked up and tight will set you back around $500 to $600 while a rebuild will set you back around that before you pay for new gears (if thats the problem). Hope this helps.
