Hi guys,
After it rains for a while, my boot lid gets full of water. I am guessing it is coming in around the lights. Is it still possible to get new seals for the lights?
Cheers,
RevSS.
I got some stuff from bunnings when my vp did that, worked a treat, also used some between the rear spoiler and the bootlid. It comes in a roll about 8mm-9mm thick and kinda feels and looks like foam. Sorry I couldnt help more, maybe ask someone at bunnings and they may know what im talking about lol, i've forgotten what its called. Good luck mate
Thanks mate.
I did get some foam weather seal that seemed to fix it for a month or so.. but the leaks are back. I was wondering about the real spoiler and if it could leak from there. Didn't think it could. So might have to have a go at that too.
Any other ideas guys??
Mine does it too, I just sealed up some holes but it still leaks. Only after heavy rain though.
I guess sealing up the taillights and re-sealing the rear-quart windows are next up.
nathans VY Calais - 'Calais 2.0' | VT Equipe | VS Calais **SOLD!**
I have read about the rear-quart windows but the boot itself does not have water, it is just the bootlid itself that fills up. You open the boot and water comes out the holes (which look like drain holes so maybe Holden knew about this) along the bottom of the lid.
There are drain holes that have been blocked up by Holden when they manufactured the cars (THIS IS ON A VT MIND YOU) lift the boot lid up, now look for two little bumps one on either end of the boot, located near the corner of the lid itself (Imagine that when the boot lid itself is closed these holes will be facing straight down). If you see them get something sharp and try to poke a hole in it, it should be easy if you've found the right spot (and if it's the same as a VT) as there will be putty that's been painted over.
Remove all the putty, if it's the same as a VT you will now never get water coming out of you're boot when you lift it up.
Cheers Glenn.
I know there are holes each end that seem like drain holes.. Will have to have a look again. But would rather fix the problem than ways around it.
Cheers,
Brad.
Mine was doing the same thing some time ago.
I replaced the brake light LED in the spoiler and need to remove the spoler to get to it. Since re-attaching the spoiler and tightening up the centre bolt, the leak seems to have disappeared in mine so maybe check that yours is tight and not letting any water in there.
Thanks for the tip mate. Will look into that one..
Any other pointers??
yeah the seals for the taillights in the bootlid might be shot. it happened to me before with the same symptoms u described. as far as i know holden still sell the seals but only for one side.
thats no drama, buy 2 of them and one will stick to the taillight, on the other side u will have to flip the seal over and stick to the bootlid itself. just take ya time and get it right (there will probably be guide marks on the bootlid from the previous seal anyway)
that fixed mine but then again i haven't got a spoiler
Was it a few years ago you replaced your Dirt drifter? As I have been told by a Holden spare parts dealer that they stopped making them about 2-3 years ago![]()
Easy way is to get some clear silicone and go round all the bolts on the lights and make sure you do the strip that holds the number plate lights as well, Take the nuts off and put some goo on then put the nuts back on. 2 years running and mine is still dry.
Silicon is how I fixed mine, the water was getting through where the wiring for the LED in the spoiler is so I filled that up, and put a light ring where the seals should be. But watch out for the silicon squishing out from under it when you tighten the spoiler back on if you do that.
Mate I'm not sure if you read my post properly, I said the boot has proper drain holes, that have been blocked up and painted over, you cannot see these holes. Not the two holes on the inside of the boot lid itself.
The water still gets into the boot lid but goes straight out the bottom of it, so it's never there.
Sorry if the VS is different to the VT boot lid.

Have you fixed the problem yet?
????????????????????????????????????????
im a panel beater and if something has a boot leak the best is to seal it with proper sealer or window sealer if your after something for around the tail lights.
happens on all these model cars (holdens), i used to work for holden and the was a techline about it. u drill a small hole each side of the boot lid in the corners (u will see the spot when you look next), use like a 3-4mm drill bit and it works sweet, finally did it to mine a month or so ago and haven't had a problem since.
Creating drainage holes (whether they are supposed to be there or not) isn't really a "fix" for the problem. More of a bandaid solution.
You need to find out how to stop the water getting into the boot lid in the first place. Just letting the water run through is asking for failed bulbs/rust in the future (unless all your bolts/nuts/wires and rust proofed)
Personally I would go with the siliconed bolt holes and tightened nuts to fix the problem.
Other option is to get a mate in the boot with a light and slowly run water over the boot to isolate the location the water is getting in. You should be able to see drips from the inside. If you do try this, start at the bottom and work your way up, otherwise you wont know where it is coming from!
Good luck! Leaks are a pain in the a$$!!!
^^ I have heard of people jumping in there boot to see where it is coming from, but if it's only leaking into the boot lid eg: (every time you lift the boot lid up water comes out) you will not see how it gets into there in the first place.
Might be a bit different in the VT (I havent seen the inside of their boots), but definately in the VS the inside of the boot lid has quite a few access panels/holes that you can see through to get to all the bolts and nuts holding the exterier on. If it is leaking from these bolts it should be reasonably easy to see if water is coming in there.
Sounds like it is then mate sorry!!
