Hey, my 94 vr has been working fine for the past 3 or so months. the idling tempurature of is usually about 1/3, however the past week or so the tempurature seems to jump way up to about 3/4 up, the fan engages but it dosent seem to be able get it down very much, it will go to about half way and then let it will run up to 3/4 again.
im wondering of this is a problem anyone else has had, before this happend, it would go to just under half way then cool it to bout 1/4, then repeat as normal, but now its gettin higher and higher, anyone have any idea wot it might be?
btw i dont hoon or rev it unnessacerily.
If it's full of coolant, the thermostate may be stuck/sticking.

This is what you need, shouldn't be to hard to fix.
THERMOSTAT SUIT V6 COMMODORE
Current ride: 94 VR Commodore Wagon, Series 1 engine in a Series 2 body.
Wheels: VE SS 19's custom machined to fit VR.
Sound: Kenwood + matching speakers.
Assuming its the same sort of setup up as the 5l you should need a rubber o ring and gasket as well and thats about how much the thermostats go for in repco or wherever.
My car used to have this isssue, replaced the temp sensor and the o2 sensor and all was well
Its a easy as pie to change the thermo just take the housing off 2 bolts i think and boom out goes the old one and in goes the new one make sure you put the new gasket in tho you can buy the little kits at repco for like 15 bucks if that doesnt work then try changing the water pump which is a bit more complex or my the temperature sender switch or maybe even the radiator has a block just trial and elimination mate
btw the temperature sender switch is the think in your radiator that tells where your temp gauge sits
I believe the temp sender would be in the block/motor not the radiator. the one in the radiator would sense coolant level.
the temp is 99 times out of 100 taken from the engine.
after all, you are not trying to protect the radiator are we?
BottleFedVS i believe your right, i think the sensor is in the motor also. All i would like to know is where is the sensor located? I believe mine may be faulty.
the 5.0Lt one is located in the inlet manifold however i'm not sure where the V6 one is located.
try searching for coolant sensor in the posts, & you may locate it. Unfortunately I don't have time to do the search for you in my manual as i'm on my way to work.
I can look for it later if you wish.
The sensor I am sure is the one under the alternator. But I doubt that is the problem I would be checking the thermostat. Gee you could even be low on coolant or even a bad water pump or blocked radiator core.
I`ve asked about the senser because my car already has a new thermostat, hoses, radiator, and the water pump is working fine. Thats why i`ve asked about the sensor as there isn`t much left for me to change. I have started another thread about this, but i didnt get much replies on that thread. My vr runs cool 98 % of the time, then out of the blue it runs hot on a freezing day, its like it happens once a month only. I check water and oil levels weekly and the water level is always spot on, and i have bled the motor over and over, so its not that either, got me stuffed.
the temp sensor on a vr v6 is a little blue thing behind the alternator. just need to take the drive belt off, undo the left-hand bolt that holds the alternator on, then just rotate it out of the way and there's ya sensor![]()
Thats the info i was after, thanks zskinner!!
my bad lol your right the temp sensor is located near the alternator sorry for the misleading info guys cheers
