hi there, total newbie to GMH as i just happen to buy cheap cars for run arounds and up until now, (2yrs in australia) its been falcons that have been right priced... anyway, i am after some more poke and fancy a nice v8, preferrebly manual and a wagon but saloon will suffice !
so any tips tricks and where to search for common issues and cheap upgrades for more power (185kw isnt going to be enough ) as i am used to driving skylines and jap performance but the v8's here seem better value and sound just so damn horny !
so, thanks for any tips and hints !!
excellent ! no problems with the v8 commodore !
but seriously, if there's any links to reviews or issues etc, i'd like to read them as i cant find anything (possibly my search technique needing reviewed ! )
also, looking at a few VT SS which are around 200k klms, and circa 5-6 grand on ebay ! whats the going rate for these also ?? I like the VT shape !

That money for a SS VT is good but try stay under the 200.000km mark, You strat looking at bushers and rust in the boot wheel wel, water marks in tail lights and ive even seen a few diffs being overhaled also radiators start blocking up so a good clean out and a new thermostat would be in line but all this reflects the last owner so look arround because you never no who your going to run into.
thanks, just replaced my falcon rad due to the same known issues with theirs ! head gasket is also on its road out and consuming/pushing 1/2L water out over 1000klm usage which is still usable and cheap to repair but its time for her to go i think ! ..and nice 5.0/5.7L v8 to replace it with !
Wats your price range...cause if you want a nice V8 id be lookin at the VZ series on.....should be able to get a VE over 300kw with no dramas and a VZ over 250 kw with no dramas either
Our VT is 250kW factory.
Any car over 200k is going to have some issues. If you have some mechanical aptitude then VT-VX would be a good choice, VY's are a bit dearer and the VZ dearer still, but younger cars generally mean fewer problems.
well, theres a sort of development.... i am selling my wr290f dirtbike as i wanted a new(to me ) v8... the wife says dont bother as she has been looking at a remserv deal on a 2010 SS sedan through her work (govt) which is 400 per fortnight for 5yrs which is fully inclusive ! insurance, fuel, tyres , servicing etc etc.... the full boona ! so..i am after an older car for myself of about the 5/6k mark so we can flick off my old Ef Wagon and our 2000 model pajero but she isnt up for flogginh the pajero !
jeez, all change ! she doesnt want to do the new SS now due to long term commitment so i am back looking at a V8 for me....women ! can't suss them at all !
