Hi everyone,
I got a small problem i neeed to ask for your help, just today i went to pick up my car from the police impound wich the car sat there for 3 days
I drove on the freeway home and just when i got off the freeway i was driving around the shopping centre then i notice me engine light was on, i wasnt the driver so i wasnt able to notice any change.
Then i asked my step mum who was driving if theres any differents to the drive, she said n i also notice that when pressing the accelerator it really lacks, how can i explain it, well it kinda revs out n hard to take off, its like driving with any tranny fluid. if u know wat i mean.
So yh i wanted to ask if anyone knows what the problem is?
Also if it helps my car is a VS V6 commdoore
Thanx in advance
could be slipping trans.
been doing burnouts or something?
no havent beeen doing burn outs. The trans is full of fluid, im just hoping its not a blown head gaskit
ive had the same happen with both my dads and my vr's we could only put it down to low or bad auto fluid
The lack of power will be due to the car being in LHM (Limp Home Mode) which happen when the engine or transmission develops a severe problem...like overheating coolant or transmission oil, sticking trans solenoids etc etc. In LHM, the car starts and stays in 3rd gear only which makes it feel like it's being powered by a rubber band. . As The1 says, do a codes check and you may get some codes. Another possible temporary "fix" is to disconnect the battery for a few minutes and see if it's still there.

hi i just checked my engine error light code and the first 3 codes were 12, than after that it said 81 which i checked the codes and it said, 2 - 3 Shift Control Solenoid Fault - Auto Transmission Only---- so what would that mean wrong with the transmission? what will i have to fix, HAKO you were pretty much right
would be nice if someone can help me with this, THANK YOU
That's the solenoid sticking or shorting - can be replaced by a trans shop or yourself - cost about $60 DIY or about $200 at a trans shop. Good Luck.
Edit - I had the same problem about 2 years ago.
Edit 2 - here's the post I generated back then: Solenoid replacement 4L60E

thank you so much mate you been a big help ill be working on it this weekend and ill let you know on how i go
I went around today to buy the shift solenoid and repco and mayday didnt have em so they told me to gotto HOLDEN, i went there and the guy said itll cost $150 is that the right price? cos i think its way tơ dear. He said that with the shift solenoid 2nd n 3rd is UP shift is that true? and he said that the 97 model is different to the 96 model. can someone help me out with this please
k so ive pulled out my tranny sump, inspected both the shidt solenoid and cant seem to c anything rong with it.
Its not burnt out, the orange cable thingo is clean as anything, so if it looks like its in gd nick wat could b rong with it, cos i dont wanna go spendin $150 on somthing that wont fix me prob.
N i really cant put everything together to test drive it cos if prob isnt fixed then ill hav to pull apart again n thatll b a big waste of tranny fluid.
HELLLLPPP PLEASE....
You will not be able to tell if the solenoid is bad by inspecting it as it probably has shorted internally - you need to measure the resistance of the solenoid, however from the youtube video you should know which is the 2/3 solenoid. Try Ebay for a solenoid....or even wreckers or a trans shop. $150 is way too much.
Edit:....did an Ebay search and straight up found one for under $50 delivered (or pick up if you're in Sydney) - these come with instructions on how to identify the bad solenoid etc etc.

OMG u wouldnt believe how hard it is to find a shift solenoid in the western suberbs of melbourne, i looked up d yellow pages and called atleast 20 transmission garages and they all said they havent got in stock. Even tried holden and they didnt even have it, but i manage to find one tranny joint but they will order till monday, costing $88
