Hey guys, ATM i have an column shift 3 seater VR ute, but i want to put 2 bucket/race seats in it and put in a centre console, tho 2 do this i have 2 convert it to floor shift, or ill end up with a huge hole in the console. all you need is the floor shift plate and the rod that goes to the box. than its just a matter of pulling the old stuff off or you could get a new steering column.

the floor shift plate with the T bar is held in place with pop rivets

As above, but I think the selector lever on the trans may be slightly different.

We fitted a floor shift box to a column shift ute and had troubles selecting 1st and 2nd gears manually. A new selector lever solved the problem.
The slot is on a different angle which causes the lever to work in a different arc.

Have you considered the handbrake as well? the steering column will need to be changed as the plastic surrounds are not compatible so if your going to the wreckers,
you might as well get the handbrake and a complete steering column, around $250 should get you both. Perhaps do a trade with them as the column shift stuff apparently
( but don't quote me on it ) is worth more to them as are the seats.

just get a waco fridge and make a center console out of that lol......

but yeah it might be better to go to a pick a part and strip out a whole car or something or even buy a wreck strip it and than resell the body to a wrecker or metal crusher.

Or you could buy a commodore and swap everything over that way you will be left with a two seater ute and a six seater commy

I ended up doing the swap, Used the tunnel out of another car -
Mine wasnt raised in the ute, Pot riveted and used extreme heavy duty sixaflex - Doesnt move at all.

Took measure ments the whole way through.

    Things Needed
Lower dash panel - The Metal Bracket + Plastic,
    Steering Column,
Floor Shifter Assembly, (T Bar Shifter, Centre Console, White Bracket, Shifter Plates etc etc)
    Heater Controls,
You will need to extend a few wires for the shifter light, Also ciggerate lighter and power button.
Measure everything many times, Drill spot welds where possible.

Also - Have a few pictures (Just reference's of the difference in the tunnel)
The measurements i took where from where the bolts go up from the tunnel (where the two nuts go into the rear of the console.) From the handbrake, and also from where the spotwelds are. Mine seems to be just a tad out, can select first. But had to put a longer screw in, to lift the front of the console upwards.

To save welding, I used heavyduty sikkaflex (the one that goes hard, panel beaters use it to hang quarter panels) The tech screws held it in place whilst that was done, Them removed and pot riveted (went a bit nuts, used around 14 rivets and the normal in the shifter)

How long did this take to complete? I've got a complete parts car so everything I need is there ready to go.. Could I knock this over in an afternoon?
