hi there, my vr wagon has recently started to stumble/stall on takeoff... it only seems to do it on a near or complete stop.. i go to take off and it drops out for a second before taking off. like it wants to stall but kicks back in again... i have checked for fault codes and coming up clean code 12..thought it might be a fuel blockage so did the filter and nothing, just replaced TPS and nothing again.. i reset the ECU and ran ok for about 5 mins then started again.. iv recently changed the spark plugs, oil switch, oil, lifter cleaner to oil at oil change, injector cleaner. fuel, air and oil filters, battery. had the alternator checked...l bloody got me baffled... ANY THOUGHTS ON WHAT IT COULD BE?
does it only do it when the car is warm
does it worse thats for sure, only get around a couple of streets before it starts in the morning..
you have probably done this, but have you reset the computer and then tried taking it for a drive then seeing if any new fault codes have been logged???
yeah, still comes up code 12.. after i reset the ecu went good for about 5 mins then started doing it again..
I'm not sure mate...Might be a vacuum leak ay ..... coil pack, Crank angle sensor.... but yeah check for splits anywhere for a vacuum leak, anybody else got any ideas???
checked the hoses and that for leaks and nothing.... doing a service on the transmittion today so will have a look underneath and see whats going on down there... you would think the ecu would pick it up. i know its working cause i did the TPS the other day and broke one of the screws when doing it up. took it for a drive and it moved it out of position and engine light came on and got low voltage TPS. fixed the screw and reset the ecu and nothing again...
yeah you would think the ecu would pick something up which would help a hell of a lot for you lol..... ill get out my Gregory's manual today and try and find something mate.... let us know how things go later.
this is a bit of a long shot, but have you checked out your engine mounts. when taking off at a low speed a screwed engine mount will cause your car to stumble a bit (but i dunno about stalling). just a thought...... good luck mate
engine mounts seem fine, got the missus to hop in the other day and rev the crap out of it, made the normal movement but didnt lift up or anything unusual... got me stuffed![]()
whats the throttle body lookin like inside??? dirty?
Id say clean out the IAC valve on the TB and reset it and then the computer again (power off for 30min+)
sorry for the late reply... throttle body was pretty dirty, cleaned it all out before i put it back in.. what do i clean the iac with? throttle body cleaner or some metho or something? and just un plug the battery for half hour ? serviced the transmittion today didnt help either... the pan was pretty clean, no bits of metal or anything...... took a bit of notice of it today, when cold it doesnt do it, its after a few minutes of driving and braking that it does it....
ok cleaned the AIC valve, was dirty as..... cleaned all of the holes inside the throttle body.... and while i was there checked the crank angle sensor and the plug on that was pretty dirty too... cleaned that and one of the metal slots on the plug lookes pretty crap so i tryd scratching on it to bare metal. cleaned that to the best as i can.. dryed off with paper towl and let sit for 20 mins then put a hair dryer on it all for about 5 mins took it for a drive, thought mad its gone... soon as the car warmed up the bloody thing starts again.... any suggestions?
my guess is its the crank angle sensor, less than $50 delivered on ebay.
ok not on the same car u had the problem, u having was same problem i had on my skyline awhile ago replaced alot of stuff only to find out the crank angle sensor had shit it self didnt do anything while cold but moment it warmed up car was a dog
will a vt crank angle sensor fit? as i have a mate with a wrecking vt wagon so get the parts cheap... im going to do the sump gasket on the weekend as its rooted so i will do the crank angle while im there... bloody car is shitting me off lol only had it a couple of months...
some things you just shouldn't skimp on......crank angle sensor being one of them, buy a new one and you wont have to replace it ever again
i did a bit of research, it says to pour cold water on it when it warms up and starts stumbling and playing up... il give it a go and if it fixes it il buy a new one if not il replace it anyway with the vt one and put the money on a new coil pack and dfi module. im guessing its one of the sensors... not sure why the ecu is not picking it up but hey.. might look into a multimeter if this doesnt work and go over the whole thing..
