Default Exhaust emitting unusual smoke. Help please guys?

    Afternoon guys!

Spent yesterday detailing my seats and then put some seat covers on them all and when i cranked the car over it coughed and died. I started it again and gave it some throttle and its miss-firing!

I give it some more revs for about 5-10 secs and then it goes back to being idle with the odd miss-fire every few seconds. My primary worry, is the smoke thats coming out of the tail pipe. Its not blue a blue smoke, its more of a really thick white smoke which makes me think its the fuel. Am i correct?

Apart from checking the plugs and leads, what else can i do? Could it be a vacuum leak somewhere? Blown head gasket? Or a faulty O2 sensor?

Im just hoping its safe to drive to at least the mechanics.

    Any help please guys?

Other common faults when installing seat covers -

valve stem seal, cracked head / block, coolant in cylinder/s.

Leave seat covers to the professionals.

lol yes seat cover installs cause many faults.

Back on track though, has it been using any water or oil?

are you getting water coming out the exhaust when you rev it?

have you ran a error code check yet?

    Hi guys,

Car is not using any oil or water at all. There appears to be no oil in the coolant and no water in the engine oil. I have not ran through an error check yet. Im new to holdens so will have a bit of a search around here to find out how i get them.

Its just strange that it has come out of no where... Really thick, dense white smoke. Smells like your normal fumes but a bit stronger... My exhaust is nearly cactus though, holes all through it. Could it be that the cat is dying? Im kinda spitballing atm...

Any one else read that there was no water in radiator and no oil in motor? i need to get my eyes checked

    and stop sniffing fumes....

on a serious note good luck... my girlfriends VT blew a headgasket by sitting still for a month... no joke she reversed into a tree... and we put it in the drive way... 1 month later we decided to take it to a panel beater and once it started it blew smoke everywhere and ran like crap... yet there was no oil or water stain on the driveway...

to this day I dont understand it... unless someone slipped a 4 litre straight six into the car i have no idea how it could do a head gasket so easily :P

LOL! nice call... My mechanic has told me he feels its the manifold gasket as there is a slight vacuum leak. The white smoke stopped about 10kms down the highway but i imagine i looked like a scene out of cheech and chongs up in smoke with a massive white cloud following my everywhere

But on a side-note, what would cause the car to double in revs when its just siting idling at normal temp? It will jsut jump up to about 1500rpm and hten slowly drop down over 30seconds... any ideas there?

A vac leak would cause that

It appears as though there is a slight coolant leak into the exhaust and that it was the moisture in the cat while it was cold and heating up that was causing the smoke.

On the way back from getting some pizza's though and my damn low-beams just went out! I still have a front left parker bulb and highbeams but nothing else... Why the hell does this keep happening to me!?

Unfortunately some of us have bad luck with cars, my old VR was the same something kept popping up after I just fixed something else. My CAS was the last straw, sold it and bought my dads VS and luckily since I have owned that it has be problem free apart from a a fuel pump.

as for the light issue hopefully it is just the bulbs.

i just bought brand new phillips ones, the white light ones. $80 for the pair. The catch is the battery light? came on for a few seconds followed by what appeared to be high beams and low beams on at the same time then low beams went a couple of seconds later... Could it be something with the alternator?

that could be a possibility, while driving did any of the lights seem to dim? easy way to check is start the car and take off the positive battery terminal if it runs fine then there is no alternator issue if it dies then then there is an alternator issue also if you have a multimeter you could check the battery's charge rate anything in the 14v range means it is working fine anything over and its overcharging and under 14 well it isn't charging enough. You would need to have it seen to or replaced if it is over or undercharging.

It sounds like you have a blown/on the way out voltage reg. need to get a new/2ndhand working alt and fix. but when they over power things the like to fry earths. so i would have a look at them to.

Had that problem in 2 out of the 3 commos i have owned

My alternator regulator had an issue and the car still ran with the positive battery terminal disconnected, it was putting out 12v.

Turns out it was a bad earth. He bared the metal a bit better and cleaned the surfaces of the cables and sprayed it with contact cleaner and all is good. I blew both my new bulbs and my parkers. Thinking about going HID a bit later when i get the cash, do a fair bit of night driving.

Car is now in getting the inlet manifold gasket replaced and a transmission cooler installed. It appears as though i have a radiator leak as well (appears to be the core) and depending how the pressure test goes i could be up for a new radiator as well. I know that repairing the core is an option but in my opinion id rather just get a repalcement rather than get it repaired, as then you at least know that the entire unit is new and another leak wont pop up as a result of the repair.

Needed a new radiator afterall and new hoses. Also got the water pump replaced at the same time. A new O2 sensor has been fitted as apparently the old one wasnt reading on the diagnostic computer.

I think my tax cheque is going to a full nolathane bush kit and extractors with redback exhaust... Shit it doesnt take long for the money to disappear
