Default Putting Calais/Statesman/Caprice steering wheel buttons onto Exec/Berlina?

    Hello,

I am thinking can this conversion be done, I was thinking to get a steering wheel with buttons and getting the head unit that came with the car and wiring it up. Has anybody done this before and is there any complications?

    Thanks

You will also need the control unit that interprets the signals from the buttons.
The buttons signal is sent to the control unit via the horn wire then the control unit signals the head unit.

    Attached to the BCM.

I believe there is some sort of aftermarket interface available also. Maybe do a search.

You dont have to use the factory H/U for this to work.
    Read this:
Pioneer Wired remote control - MP3Car.com

Its simple electronics, monkeys could assemble this stuff.

    Thanks,

Yeah reason why i wanted to use the factory gear is so it's all plug and play hopefully with a little bit of wiring maybe.
Kind of like the look of the factory head units too.
I'd take it all I need is the steering wheel with buttons and the control unit from a Calais or Statesman and head unit.

Or do I actually need a whole BCM from a Stato/Calais that has a provision for the input from the steering wheel buttons in
order for it to work, I take it being a Berlina I have the "High" Level BCM, so the control module is not part of it?
Or would my existing BCM allready have a provision for the button type steering wheel?

I'd like to know how the factory system works too, might get some wiring diagrams if the Haynes manuals have them for the Audio System.
Does the control unit have one wire going to it? each button when pressed send a voltage through that wire with more or less resistance to the control unit and is that how it deciphers which commands
    it's receiving?

Or is there separate wires for each command that just get grounded when you press each button?
