Apparently my VR is due for a minor service in about 500km, i'm planning to do it myself to reduce costs. Car is a typical V6 Auto with high k's
Aside from Changing the oil and oil filter, what else would i need to be changing, or at least looking at in a minor service for a V6 auto?
light bulbs, all round the car, wiper blades and bottle all work,(maybe change blades), power steering level, brake fluid level, if it has mags try and look in at brake pads, radiator level, overflow bottle level,
tranny in park running, check level, also should be a nice red colour. take air filter out and clean. happy motoring, put in a tank of 98octane clean it out a bit.
Does it have a service history?
Fuel filter if more than 20,000 k's old.
Air filter if more than 20,000 k's old.
Transmission fluid and filter change if more than 40,000 k's old.
Spark plugs if more than 20,000 k's old.
Diff oil if you think it's about time.
And of course oil + filter.
Leads if old.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
depends on your budget and how much time u want to spend on it...
Take a look at one of your local papers for automotive ads where its like $99 for a service there should be a list of things they do and should work down that list
spark plugs, check all fluid levels, air filter, fuel filter ect
check wheel bearings for play, check ball joints for excessive play, check shocks for leaks, check suspension bushes are ok. Remove serpentine belt, check for damage, spin and check all idlers and pulleys for play or bearing noise. Check exhaust for leaks.
Finally, inspect battery terminals for corrosion and tightness - if corroded, remove, clean and coat with vaseline before re-installing.
The beauty of doing all the work listed above by yourself is that you know it is done properly and makes you more responsible of the machine you own.
Good Luck.

Thanks all, looks like there's a fair bit of work to do.
Spark plugs and leads are due for a replacement. Car is running genuine's atm, but seeing as the car has some minor mods, and will see more mods in future, is it worthy to look into performance plugs and leads? and what brands/part numbers would be good?
