Hi , daughter left work tonight , drove 100m and saw smoke coming from under bonnet ! , a passerby helped her open bonnet and sprayed fire retardent on smoldering/burning wiring ,( god bless him , thanks whoever you are ) . Now i had new lock/ key put in a while back and for a while it stuck in the on position causing the starter to stay engaged , the fire was just under the fuse/relay box , there is also a crappy wire goinup at this area , the previous owner put in a new moter and joined op a few what looks like earth wires with tape in this spot , which do yous reckon is the more likely cause ? , ta....
Twisted and taped joins all together with each other is a recipe for a fire. It dosnt take much for a few strands to bust through the tape and short to somthing or start to tarnish and create a high resistance and start a fire, especially if the guy that swapped the motor wasnt real good at this stuff, and just went around twisting wires and whacking in incorrect fuse sizes maybe even bypassed them altogether.
This is the exact reason why i advocate to people not to twist and tape wires in your car.
I am glad to hear that everyone is ok, shame it happened.
Thanks for reply , yes it could of ended up a lot worse , had va better look on daylight , looks like fusable link piece , the one under the relay main box whent up first ! , ta.
Worked out that the power cable to the fuse box , under the relay box , came adrift and touched metal , all the rest is history !
