Hi everyone did a check of oil an water today and found some oil in water and under radiator cap. I am asuming that the inlet manifold gasket has let go somewhere, as i was about to do waterpump and replace some sensors i will now have a bit bigger job to do. I recently changed the radiator and noticed when i was bleeding the system that when the water got in around gasket that the revs changed, would this hav been a sign that the gasket was on its way out? cheers Bob.
You can get the cooling system pressure tested at most mechanics, this test will show if any gaskets or cooling system components are blown or leaking. Its also worth getting the engine compression tested as well..Probably wouldnt hurt getting the hot and cold engine oil pressures checked either while their at it.This will give you a good idea on the overall condition of the engine
Same issue here mate, Was the inlet gasket on my VR, Changed it on the weekend.
Heres a how to that i made up
Vr inlet gasket replacement
No oil in it since.
Runs alot lot better. sit a glass of water on it now hehe
Can pressure testing tell what gasket is leaking or just that it could be either a head gasket or inlet manifold gasket . I noticed that my VX has a bit of oil under the radiator cap
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't
If the engines comperession is good ,but theres a cooling system leak showing up,then that would point to a leaking inlet manifold gasket. If theres also a drop in compression on one or more cylinders as well as a leaking cooling system, this would more than likely be a leaking/blown head gasket. If the head gasket is leaking/blown,the inlet makifold gaskets have to be replaced anyway as its got to come off to get the heads off to replace the head gaskets, and to check the heads and block deck for warping etc.
Thanks for everyones help, will be getting a compresion test done so i know for sure, Bob.
