Hi
A while back I posted about the trans in my vr slipping. Up until the other day ihave been putting up with it.
Last Sunday I was towing a box trailer with a quad in it with a few mates in the car. Stupid when the trans is slipping I know. Just got up to 100ks on the fwy when I notice a shit load of white smoke behind my car. Quickly pulled over and checked under the car, trans fluid was still dripping from around the trans all over the car and ground.
I got it towed home and tried to drive it. It started and engaged into D as usual. I only moved it forward so I don't know if it will change gears or not, but I'm thinking if it still engages it mustn't be blown. There has always been oil on the radiator cap, could it be related the the cooling side of things swell.
What I'm asking is should a put in another trans or should I also grab another radiator?
Cheers

It's hard to say exactly, I've been ski off work all week but will try tomorrow to get it up on ramps. But defiantly behind the engine as it is still clean,
Car still runs fine though

Well about a month or 2 ago I changed fluid and filter with no improvement, and since then nothing. My mechanic says it needs replacing which will hopefully be done this week. But I'm thinking that pressure my be building up somewhere as well since all the fluid was forced out. It was driving fine along the freeway even when the fluid started coming out.

All you can do is replace the fluid that has been lost - what has happened is that with the transmission slipping, heat has built up and the transmission fluid has boiled over. With a bit of luck, topping the fluid up may get the car going again for a short time.

I suppose, if your doing the tranny, get an aftermarket cooler too![]()
k, had a look under the car today. Cant see a specific area the fluid has come out of. The pan is covered in oil, as are the sides and front of the transmission. Not sure if it could be the rear main seal (not an expert) or something. Anyway i've got a second hand transmission lined up to get tonight. I'm going to attempt to install it with my dad on the weekend, fingers crossed it all goes well. Anyone able to point me in the direction on this site of a how to or something. Searched but couldn't find anything myself.
Cheers

Suggest you buy (or borrow) a workshop manual.
I have one, figured if there was a how to on here I'd read through that aswell

You dont really need to read a "how to" when you have a manual there, its all step by step instructions, you cant go wrong.Ive learnt a lot of stuff out of these manuals over the years. They're well worth the money they cost.
In my opinion its relatively simple, drain the fluid, remove shaft, undo the mount, support with jack, undo the bellhousing bolts, remove the level check, unplug the loom, slide back. And since your changing the box, do the rear main seal. Anyways, thats my opinion on this matter.
