driving recently began to notice that when in 3rd gear ill hit 120kmph and revs will be at bout 5k, it comes time to shift to 4th (auto transmission), rather then shifting into 4th and revs dropping it hits the shift point drops down and goes back like you were reving the engine in neutral to peak.... not sure why this problem has occured searched it abit but havent found the answer, this only occurs during well "gunning" it when smooth driving it will flick to 4th and keep going no dramas but once foot is down it stuffs up....
sorry if the explaination is abit shitty, best could explain it...
yea my vs does it 2... sometimes when im launching off the lights shifting from 1st to second it will stay around 4-5k and wont shift like its slipping or something its ###d and i havent been able to find the answer for it either and seems no1 knos about it.... good luck dude
i dont think it would change anything anyway, but im pretty sure you mean it hits 5k in 2nd gear not 3rd? unless you got an insane gear ratio in your diff lol. your problem seems alot worse than this, but maybe just check your tranny fluid level cos an incorrect fluid level can cause all sorts of problems with gear shifting and drivability. just my thoughts..... good luck ay
Is there a problem if you over fill it?
Yes, dont overfill it.
Get a transmission service kit from repco. Drop the oil/pan, replace filter, clean pan, replace gasket and replenish oil.
Should rectify smaller issues.
Any ideas how much fluid it would take from a dead empty trannt, torque conveter and radiator (stock, no after market) it would take? I think i may have to drain some, i put in 8Ls of fluid, havnt started it yet tho.
Automatic transmission for VS V6 -
Total dry refill 7.9L
Service refill - 4.8L
use DEXRON III
Hope that helps
12L for entire cooling system (not dexron3)
Cheers mate, i take it ill need 12Ls as im fairly positive the tranny was dead empty and torque was empty, i know the rad was completely empty. ill prob get away with chucking another 2L in there just to be safe.
Dont overfill it, is a major pain to take any oil back out! Should have a sump or something but it doesnt,
I dont want to over fill it hence why ill only put a total of 10L in and not 12L. Just in case 2L has been hidden somewhere.
Sorry to hijack your thread mate!
i went for another run i hit 120 redlines if i take my foot off gas for few seconds and then gas again it cchanges gear.... but general driving it doesnt have problems... still not sure what to do... il check tranny fluid when i have some light what else could it be
seq4x4 - read the posts again! - the capacity of the trans is Automatic transmission for VS V6 -
Total dry refill 7.9L
Service refill - 4.8L
use DEXRON III
The quantities you say you will use (10-12 litres) are for coolant. Plus, you cannot drain more than 4.3 litres from the trans. Overfilling will kill the transmission plus make one hell of a mess on the driveway.

If your trans oil seems to be an ok level then I would still recommend servicing it, but add an additive called lucas transmission fix when you do it. I know alot of people will think a cheap additive will do jack shit but seriously it helped my slipping issues sooo much. For under 20 bucks a bottle at repco what you got to lose? lol just realised I sounded like I work for them or something lol but seriously I recommend it and a basic service, if not a full flush if your oils not so good anymore and its been a while since you last serviced it
okay i tested again, 2nd to 3rd when foot all the way down it wont change gears... just revs at 5k.... if i release pedal for few seconds then gas it again will start gaining more speed no more reving, issue is i use to be able to plant the foot and keep going... why is this problem coming, checked tranny fluid its all good could it be gear box on last legs??
Have u changed filter, gasket and fluid yet??
Do a fault code check as it may indicate a sticky/buggered solenoid in the transmission Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)

All good in terms of the tranny oil filter etc... still same issue, gonna do engine check in sunlight if i get time... but with quick talk to mechanic he said its going from 3rd to 4th gear the clutch (how he worded it) is on way out and is early sign gear box is on way out... means gotta pocket the pennies if that is the case... see what happens, as i said only happens when i plant it all the way down hit 120ish and it revs out, cruising it works perfectly fine... though at 120 if i release gas for few then go again it will let me, so yeh time will tell i guess, if engine check comes up with something then ill know haha otherwise please gear box dont go till i save money :P
hmmm tranny fluid smell and look is how it should be as it was only changed like 1 month ago... but early signs gearbox/tranny on last legs so time to save the dollars and make this last aslong as possible haha smooth slow driving here i come... if u get behind me sorry guys ill be going granny speed jks :P
