im thinking about buying a set of the clear frost tail lights for my white VS wagon. but i would like to know if anyone has ever seen a set thats clear top, red middle and clear bottom?? i really think they would look soooo classy being just red and clear.
iv heard somewhere that you can separate the lens from the body and just flip a reverse lens in place of the amber indicator but i tried tonight with an old one i pulled off the car, and i broke it coz it was brittle, but the lens wasnt glued as such, it was almost like it was welded together... anyone know if "non genuine" lights are glued together or welded like genuine???
im really liking this idea of red and clear. anyone wanna try a photochop??? or know of a link to an image??
thats exactly what i was thinkin it would look. awesome.
so the next part is: how can i go about achieving this??
if i got some plain clear ones could i dye the center segment red from the inside??
depending on how they are closed up, if theyre glued and i got some plain clear ones, i would very highly consider just painting the inside reflector black and run LED bulbs in to make the colour. then they look like dark tinted ones but actually arent....???
any suggestions??

haha, ive benn thinking of doin the same thing, i rekon a hack saw would chop them out ok, havent got any spare time or cash to buy n dissmantle any tho.. only thing is the brake part is a different size to the reverse part so maybe a lill tricky.. let me know if you come up with an idea!

if you work it out im keen on maybe doing that for my ute, was originally just gonna get those altezza ones but they look good in the photshop thing.
maybe buy clear ones of and like you said dye the middle, you can get translucent black for those blacked out taillights so i assume you can probably get red?

what i need to find out is how the aftermarket "Depo" branded units are held together, coz if theyre glued with the same goop as the clear tailights i had on my VN im about 75% sure it will work.
I bought a tail light from the wreckers to give it a try but the way they are glued it would take quite a bit of stuffing around. Not sure if "Depo" make them.
Mmmmm V8
any light bought from places like repco, autobarn and/or supercheap are usually the DEPO brand. i know this coz i used to work at repco and in coffs harbour we used to share the same light supplier, all crash parts. and they sold primarily DEPO lights.
as i found out the other night with the one i pulled off the car (genuine) it was like the coloured lenses were actually welded to the housing and so were not removable. but a positive note tho, i believe that you might actually be able to buy the reverse (clear) lens separately. coz all three sections have different part numbers on them, so ill ask my dad (in holden parts) if they are available and ill get back here with a P+A.
hmmmmm........ just attacked the one i had inside. and it dawned on me. putting a reverse lens on top in place of the indicator lens wont work.
the reverse lens is broader as on the car, the tail light is slimmer at the top where it follows the body line. so if a reverse lens were to be fitted in place of the indicator, it would stick out slightly. so ill get in contact with all crash and see if theyll sell me all the lenses the way i want them and let me put them together...

well i spoke to holden today and the part numbers on the lens must just be a reference number they use when theyre putting them together coz theres no evidence of them ever being individually available. so ill try and get in contact with one of the aftermarket companys and go from there.
progress has been made. spoke to all crash today and the clear lights are glued together so could be opened. And i can get a set of clear ones for $55. So any one wanna donate a set of nongenuine standard type lights to a good cause?
if you want to swap for a genuwine one ill swap but the rh one is genuwine. the lh one is the only non genuwine one i have.
saves me trying to find a amber globe and such.... god im lazy

Im likely to buy a set of clear tail lights off ebay soon and will probably end up doing this to my ute. Was there any reason in particular why you wanted or needed to do it from the inside?
