I recently got a new exhaust installed on my '95 VS exec. auto sedan because the old muffler was buggered - got a redback catback with a res (which I'm pretty happy with btw) and the guys who installed it for me have told me that I've got a cracked right manifold and that the left one's on the way out too. Had a look at the crack myself and it's pretty bad and every morning she takes longer to start up. They've told me that the best thing to do is install a set of extractors - the midrange brands they use are going to be $680 for the part and installation. Just wanted some reassurance that this was all about right and that the extractors are the way to go, and if there's a particular brand i should think about
cheers
They are right, Extractors are the way to go. Mine cracked so I got some PaceMakers and fitted myself, (Easy job) I do think $680 is a bit up there.
You could just get a pair of 2nd hand manifolds and they may last another 10 years or one but its up to you and what you want from the car. As I said I like the HPC coated PaceMakers but do no that you must no how to do a bit of basic Fitter/welder work if you want to fit them yourself. I have some standed manifolds now and selling them for $120 just to give you an idear. Good luck
most replacement manifolds have a extra bit of cast to support where they normally crack. extractors give u stuff all extra for the money spent. buy the stock maniflods and get a high flow cat instead money better spent!
Making and running DUAL CHIPPED ECU SINCE 2010
Hi I would go the extractors and get a set of pacemaker, i hav just had the same problem and got a set of pacies installed for what u were quoted. I notice you are in hobart to, i would call around for a good price as you should be able to get pacemakers for that, if not send me a pm ad i will give you the name of place that did mine, cheers Bob.
Should have yelled out, i just took 2 sets of manifolds to the tip.
Id go with the extractors, well worth it.I fitted pacemakers to my V6 and the power increase wasnt that great, but noticeable from around 2500 RPM upwards. The main thing I noticed was the increase in fuel economy,a lot better on fuel. They would have paid for themselves by now in petrol savings. Also I noticed the engine runs cooler,my running temperature dropped down 1 mark on the temp gauge compared to where it used to run with the standard exhaust manifolds fitted...
Thanks dudes. I'll ask how much pacemakers in particular are then. If it's not a good number i'll take you up on that vrtuff mate
