    Default engine blown ??

    ok so was cruising along the beach today and gave it a lil and then BANG and a big cloud of white smoke, engine dies so i pull over 2 the side of the road and try and start it again it makes a big big loud knocking noise and dies.... talked 2 my uncle who knos alot about cars and he reckons it myt be a piston or possibly the crank... any ideas any1 ??

    Wouldn't think it would be a piston....If it blew one it should still run if I'm correct. Unless it blew out of the cylinder through the block or the head or something....

    yea i dunno all i kno is that its ###d and looking at a new engine .... myt finally give me a reason 2 put and ls2 in there

    Do a compression test. Had a similar problem the other day. Turned out to be a broken valve spring. Difficult to identify just by inspection.

    ahhk that gives me a bit of hope hey.... so u change that urself ?? how much they cost 2 replace ?? and to SEQ4x4 ive done my research on them cause uncle had a ve ss v8 twin turbo for sale he was gonna give 2 me but according 2 measurements the trans and engine wont fit hahah

    Listen to your uncle i'd say mate, unfortunately he's heading in the right direction. crank shaft, conrods, pistons, cam, timing chain bent push rod. Before you pull it which i daresay is inevatable by the sounds, take the plugs out, use something that wont disintegrate, break etc (like a straw) & push down the spark plug hole & turn the engine by hand & see if u can feel the pistons going up or down. I wouldn't compression test it, that'll involve winding it over on the starter & if it's a rod then if it hasn't already it could score the bore even winding by hand could do this but atleast you can feel if something jams internaly, atleast that'll tell you if all your pistons are still connected to the crank or if the crank is broken (only some pistons would move) . take the rocker covers off & turn it over by hand again & see if the valves are opening & closing.

    Some checks to go over before pulling the engine that might let you know what you need done once the engines out.

    Oh true. That sucks. Iv got a VE V8 into VS conversion kit if your interested. The brand is "6lb sledge hammer". Good price too.
    Anyways, back on topic.

    Your uncle was going to 'give' his twin turbo'd VE SS to you.....? Are you related to some millionaire's or something...your uncle isn't Kerry Packer is it?

    Loud bang plus smoke generally means its popped,

    specially if its making a loud repeating band when you try to turn it over...

    pull your spark plugs out and see if you can get enough light down each pot to see whats going on

    nuh HamaTime , my uncle builds high powered drag engines and does high powered street cars and stuff like that and he was gonna give it 2 me 2 put it in and see how it would go and if i liked it i would of bought it hahah... yea i myt have 2 have a look at taking out some spark plugs and seeing what i can see down there haha

    also forgot 2 mention that after i pulled over popped the bonnet and there was smoke coming out of my CAI

    id say a valve might of droped a retainer this is a common defect on the six when abused

    mate you need to go back to car school you can comp test by hand the wreckers i used to work for like 6 years ago always did this lolol

    yea so just had uncle round and he said its deffinatly not anything big like a piston or crank shaft but it myt be something like a dropped retainer or a pushrod or something its not at the bottom its at the top lol

    it's not a push rod there bullit proof in the v6 in fact ppl use them in the 308's

    vr1uz-fe You can physicaly turn a motor by hand fast enough to get a true compression reading??????? lmgdfao (laughs my god damn fawkn ass off). Good luck with that, i think you need a little more than school. Guess you didn't like the other topic where you got told your quick fix isn't right lol I'm done with you altogether vr1uz-fe, you wont see another post from me towards you simply because your not worth the time

    taken off rocker cover the rockers and pushrods are all good, took off the throttle body and found shards of metal inside then took off that top plate 2 show me where the air goes in and there is massive amounts of metal shards so now calling around for a new engine haha
