    Default HELP PLEASE starter motor for vr 3.8 auto ????

    hi guys just bought a vr sedan auto 3.8 and the starter is caputt pulled it out and went got some numbers on newy only thing is all the new ones ive seen have a snout on the front around the gear , but the one i pulled out has no snout and seems to look like a manual starter ??? am confussed its a delco remy !? does this make any diffrence ? or has someone stuffed a wrong starter in this car ?! any help apprieciated

    Hey mate, i dont think the snout would make a difference, have a guess from the pictures to see if it lines up. Ebay is your best option for a new one, bit more expensive in store, never go to a wrecker for one, they will want your first born for one.

    If your local to the sunshine coast, i have one here if you would like it?

    thanks seq4*4 but ive got hold of a new one for close to ebay price just wasnt sure about the shroud bit , all the starters ive seen on here are open at the gear ! very confusing rofl but if it works all the better thanks again bud

    UPDATE warning to all with a vr auto not all things appear equall .. bought a starter from leky shop dude says itll be rite "one with a shroud ova gear " ### me if the damn thing is wrong !!!!!!! not a happy jan at all ok so when he looked at the old one he remarked .......why was there a manual starter in there ? ,, doh!! so what i need for this car is a manual type starter .......the hole that the end with the gear goes thru in only maybe an inch wide and inch n half deep so a snout thats 2-3 inchs round aint guna fuggin fit !! what gives with holden putting diffrent bellhousings on there auto's !!?????? am i missing something like theres a tricky piece that can be removed to put a "normal starter on "??? an help much apriciated

    tell me bout it seq4*4 im mighty pist :/ argghhhhhhh but the hole in the bellhousind that the starter fits into is small as and noway in hell is 2-3inch shroud ova gear guna fit :/ lol maybe and only maybe cos im not clued up on commodores it is left ova from vn-vp ??thort you guys would know for sure lol

    very strange that its got a manual starter. possible its a very early VR, and got the starter from VP auto, which was the Delco Remy.

    You cannot get genuine Delco starters for them any more. Have to go an aftermarket one, which sometimes have clearance issues, and need to be shimmed.

    Other option is Castlemaine Auto Enterprises do a gear reduction Hi-Torque replacement for them.

    thats the one wamboin its a delco "far k i bet me backside it aint as cheap as the one oldmate sold me "

    update time .....new starter in but i broke the damn soleniod clip off the end of the wire and was dark"6.30" so heres a new problem . got the new starter $340.00 but looked at the pinion gear and it sticks out a bit further than the original fingers crossed it bloody works !!!!!!otherwise i think a session in the lathe mite be in order !
