Hi All,
Just wanted to find out some info and any do's and don't before I go ahead with this.
Yesterday my motor started to make some knocking noises, and I have put it down to a conrod bearing has gone, and hopefully Its savable with some oversized caps in it.
Now, I asume I can lift the motor slightly and get the sump off no dramas there, and then do all the work from underneath?
Is there any difference in VS ecotec V6 motors?
What should i be looking for in regards to which one is broken?
Whats the price on a set? I only want to replace the damaged one if possible...
Cheers guys
i dont think u will be able to do it without removing the motor. im about the do the same procedure and it doesnt look pretty, but think this, if you dont remove the crank, how do you get to the main bearings on the block side?? and a few steps back, if your motor is still up against the trans, how do you get the flex plate out when its still attatched to the crank and you cant get ur hands between the flex plate and the converter... basically makes it very hard to do anything when everythings in the way.
I'd be looking at another motor - they can be got for less than a set of bearings, gasket set and a crank regrind (which you must have to do a proper job).

Thanks for the replies, I think its pretty straight forward with removing the bearing caps, I don't intend to remove the crank, and I only plan on replacing the bearing(s) that are damaged, and the others a seated correctly if not damaged.
By just removing the spark plugs and taking off the front belt, I will be able to turn the motor by hand, and move the piston up or down to get the bearings out, I have done this before on a ca18det motor, and worked with no probs, the knock is only very slight, and not a huge knock, I don't think the crank is damaged, however if it is, then I will look into a motor replacement, but I won't buy my parts till I know what is actually wrong without seeing first, then go from there...
