First off, do a fault codes check (easy) Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)
Have you washed the engine recently?....or is the engine using/losing coolant....how old are plugs/leads?

I wouldn't wait for it to stuff up again - probably happen right outside a rough pub just on closing time. Do the codes check!!

These error codes usually wont cause a misfire, but Id be fixing them anyway.Start by clearing the logged error codes by disconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes. Then drive it for 20 minutes to half an hour, and recheck the error codes to see if they return. If they do return, check the "bad" sensors wiring and connectors for bad or loose connections etc.If it all looks clean and tight, renew the sensor, they wear out over time, just like any other part.If you check or replace (replace is best if they look old) the plugs and leads, and its still misfiring, get hold a known working ignition coil, and swap it over, one at a time with each of your three coils, and drive it each time to see if theres any difference. If it turns out to be a faulty coil, its best to replace all 3 at the same time..Try to use genuine holden coils or quality aftermarket coils like MSD etc. Some cheaper coils dont last long and will wear out quickly.Another thing Id be doing is replacing the fuel filter if it hasnt been done in a while. It easy to do this yourself if you have axle/chassis stands or ramps. One other thing I can think of is the CAS(Crank Angle Sensor). This can cause bad running, misfiring etc etc when they get old.Same deal as with the coils, try to only use genuine holden CAS's.Sometimes a problem with the CAS wont set an error code either,so if its old, or a cheapie brand one,its worthwhile replacing it if theres a misfire problem you cant track down.

Does it only do it when the motor is cold? If it's when it's not fully warmed up could it be a fault in the charcoal cannister purge mechanism? It's only mrant to open when the motor is warm and the car is being driven above a certain speed. If the motor is cold or reving slow this valve being opened may make it run rough?

When my vs was playing up like that it was the DFI, but it should give you some codes in the 40's
