I have just replaced the power steering reservoir & hoses on my 6 cyl VS II due to loss of fluid. I thought it was a small crack, but I could be wrong. Now the fluid in reservoir is quite turbulent when engine idling, and will splash out a small quantity when cap removed. The outside of the reservoir is also a bit wet, which could have been the cause of the initial slow oil leak before I replaced the reservoir. Fluid seems to get quite hot. I had never checked this while running before, but other makes (I've looked at 2 Falcons) don't seem turbulent, I haven't been able to check a similar Commodore. It drives fine, but I've only done 100 ks since the swap. Car is 140,000k since new. I have bled by turning lock to lock.
Do I still have a problem? Other threads indicate this could be a pressure relief valve problem, but I can't confirm. Where is the press relief valve? Can it be replaced without doing the complete pump? Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks, Jules.
The fluid in the VS power steering does flow quite fast and tends to bubble around in the reservior. Nothing to worry about, if the cap has a good seal, it's fine.
Many thanks No Abba (I'm no fan either), you have set my mind at rest. I'll just keep an eye on the oil level from now on.
Jules.
