If you have a solid rear then it's fairly simple....if IRS you really need a workshop to press the bearing in.

Believe it or not, Gregorys says to take the hub and the suspension arm to a authorised dealer as special tools are required to remove the hub - that's if it's IRS.
Solid is a bit simpler as it is conventional and you remove the axle to replace the bearing....still need tools to remove and press on the bearing and shrink ring. Front hubs are a piece of cake!
PM me your email address and I can copy the pages from the manual to you.

I'm not sure if its the bearings or what, there's a whirring noise coming from the rear left hand wheel while driving, a couple of weeks ago i changed the rear pads and adjusted the hand brake to tight and it sounded like the brakes were sticking so i loosened the cable back off and its good now, could it still be something rubbing or sticking... i'm just hoping its not the bearings.

well i jacked up the rear wheel today and felt for play in the bearings....there's no movement, could a hole in the exhaust be the noise, there was a bit of a hole in it near the rear left tyre???

im not sure it was the mechanic who said it the other day when he done a roadworthy on it, its not registered yet so i cant really test drive it, i dunno this car is really getting to me. so far i've done....... New radiator, head gaskets, inlet manifold gaskets, rocker gaskets, a new tensioner arm pulley, new windscreen, L/H rack boot, R/H tie rod end, Rear brake pads, rear Tyre, changed engine oil, new oil filter, coolant, instrument cluster... i think that's about it lol, its like its one bloody thing after another, Oh and its only a solid axle not IRS i checked this morning so i was a bit happy about that.
    cheers

To remove the axel on those its pretty straight forward, remove wheel, disc, then brake i think, then there will be for alen key bolts or hex (i cant remember if the Holden or ford was the hex) once youve undid those, tap it out gently, the bearing cup should have a machine finish in it, no pitting. If you are going to remove it make sure that axel side is jacked right up so all the diff fluid goes to the other side. Also be very carful not to break the axel seal, that will stay in the diff itself.

Removing the bearing and fitting a new one isnt a walk in the park tho.
Im not too good at describing things online, but i think iv got the method down pat for you to understand.

Also, before doing that, jack the car up so both wheels are off the ground, chock the front wheels and put stands under the the axels, start it up, if you cant hear anything when its running, get someone to jump in and get the wheels to spin whilst your under and see if you can pin point it.
