Last time i changed a clutch on a ecotech it was a VR and i just put the alignment tool on and bolted it all up and everything was fine
I am about to change a clutch on a VS and my mate is saying the pressure plate should be under load whilst its torqued up
is this the case and if so where do i get the tool
Cheers

Never heard of such thing before, i use to do this for a living. We either used a cut input shaft to align it all and bolt it in (tightening the bolts bit by bit going round in a circle till all tight) or if the rare occasion came up we used a clutch aligning tool.
O.o
Tell your mate to lay off the bongs buddy!
A cut off,or old gearbox input shaft is similar to most clutch aligning tools anyway.
Being a VS, it will have the duel mass flywheel. you will need to carefully inspect the flywheel to make sure it is in good condition.
If the flywheel has hot spots or wear marks, you will have to replace it as it can not be machined.

You can just feel around the edge of the pressure plate and align the clutch plate that way. Should be even all the way around. Just have a little load on the pressure plate so the clutch plate can be pushed around to align it. Check alignment by looking straight down the center of the clutch plate.
I think I have used an aligning tool maybe twice. I prefer this method.

Sure if you want to touch the clutch plate and fly wheel. Then you just gave yourself a shudder while you use the clutch. Bolt the fly wheel up, use some good thinners and clean it so no dirt, grease or finger prints are on it. Set up the clutch aligning tool (only touch the sides of the clutch plate) then bolt it up without touch the flywheel or front/back of the clutch plate. Same principal apply to brakes as well.
Never touched the clutch plate. Like I said, the edge.
Probably done 40-50 and never a problem.
