yer so i think i blew a head gasket like not long ago
got home, parked, smelt weird smell
got out
see the smoke through the lights
open the bonnet and i see smoke coming from around the rocker covers
never really blown a head gasket before, so not sure if it would make a sound, becasue i didnt hear anything
the other thing i think it might be is that i have a crack somewhere cos ive seen a fair bit of oil of my driveway
anyway
heres a picture to help
any advice is greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my bad for the 2 pictures and the overall huge size of them
now 1 picture =]
Get the cooling system pressure tested, and get the engine compression tested. These tests are fairly cheap to get done.Probably wouldnt hurt to get the hot and cold oil pressure readings checked at the same time. These tests will give you a good idea of the true overall condition of your engine.
whats the oil on the dipstick look like?
I would say something has definitely let go!
It is coming from above the rocker cover or from below. Its a bit hard to tell but it looks like the rocker cover is covered in it as well.

yer it the smoke was coming from below
and yer it did also look like something has sprayed everywhere
just checked the dipstick then and it was on empty
so im leaning towards it hopefully being just no oil and getting the crack or whatever it is fixed
cheers for ze replies btw =]
empty? really? is the car on level ground and is the engine cooled down a bit?
look under your oil cap then, is there mayo whitish sludgy sh!t on the cap
Looks like a simple rocker cover gasket leaking badly - eventually they get worse and the oil runs over the exhaust manifold and....smokes. If the engine runs OK after topping the oil up, I'd replace the gasket.

thats the dirtiest rocker cover ive ever seen
rocker cover gasket it seems?
Second the Rocker Cover or perhaps the Inlet manifold Gasket or maybe the Inlet itself has cracked.
If it's not a Symptom its not relevant, and if its not relevant I don't care!
Just having another look at the pic, that gasket is sticking out the side under the cover,no wonder its leaking oil and smoking, the oil is dripping onto the exhaust manifiold.Just replace the rocker cover gaskets, and only tighten them to the proper specification (7 -11 Nm) .Most people overtighten these covers and it squashes the gaskets which bulges them out like in the pic, which just causes an oil leak again.
thanks soooooooooooo much for the responses, i know a little bit about cars
