I've just got myself a tuned memcal and i hear that the final part of the installation process is to reset the ECU.
From what i've read, to reset the ECU the negative terminal of the battery must be disconnected, though there's varying claims of how log it needs to be disconnected, anywhere from as short as 10 mins to as long as 2 hours.
And then upon starting the car, the car is supposed to be revved up to , and held at approx 2000rpm for 20 seconds, though i've also read that the car may automatically rev itself up.
If anyone could confirm/deny what i posted above that would be great.
From my understanding, disconnect for 5mins. Hook back up and drive normally after start up. This applys for the VS, unaware about the VR.
Just a couple of minutes with the battery termianal off will be enough to reset the ECU.The gregorys manual for the VP,(I dont have a VR one,but same engine) says, after interrupting the power supply to the ECU,start the engine and rev it above 2000 rpm for a short while to reset the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve.Ive noticed this process is not mentioned in the manuals for the later models with the ecotec engine.
Might just go with what the VP gregory's manual says, seeing as its a similar engine, and the ECU should not differ all that much
ive always just pulled the engine fuse from the engine bay for 15mins, has always reset it for me, no need to disconnect the battery unless you want to. Then you dont have to reset stereo's etc. The ecotec's rev themselves up anyway about 1200rpm on the first start to relearn the IAC so there's no need to be reving anything really.
