Question vs ute rebuild! any comments on my stupidity :D

ok lets start with the engine build...
first off ill be going with
    4.2lt stroker kit stage 1 stock standard - $2520
followed by recond ported n polished heads - $800
these head will also have - ultra high ratio roller rockers (1:98:1) - $650
    - #105 crow cam vavle springs - $180
    - retainers suited - $65
also using hardend push rods - $220
meshing the 2 together with acl performance gaskets - $330
and the bloack work will cost around - $700 for facing boring grinding and welding if needed
considering other modds to go on also
    would be a stage 2 cam + memcal - $850
    25 mm manifold spacer - $220
    25mm plenum spacer - $180
    69mm throttle body - $220
    85mm mass sensor - $230
i have alread installed a 3" high flow catback system, i will need the extractors installed (i have a nice set of pacey's to go on)
will need to get a high flow cat also - $220
i have a mate that will dyno tune/ remap it for 500
ok sorry about the big boring list here haha
the throw in a fully recond auto trans - $1400
    recond 308 lsd dif - $700
and probly 1k on redoing all the interior but will sort that out another date.
id like to hear everyones opinion on what im about to commit my self to do please any feedback would be awesome, this will be a fairly big project and i will probly also need some out side help, so if your in adelaide hit me up teach me some doo's and dont as i havnt done anything this big before....
    cheers
    josh.

From what i hear, a 4.2 stroker has little power gains and is only used for when forced induction is introduced. But, thats what i heard, not fact.

IMO there's a lot it that list that is not necessary.

But lets just start with what you hope to achieve with the combo? From the prices you rattled off cost doen't seem to be an issue, am i correct in that?

I have done lots of research on V6 3.8/ 4.2 as my tuner was the first to build a 4.3L (buick) v6 In S.A. He did years of R&D and built one for his own car. makes a healthy 180rwkw with an average exhaust setup, so lots of potential. We discussed doing a stroker on my ecotec and his point of view was that the cost vs. gains (for n/a) weren't as good as if i did stroker AND forced induction together. I want to stay n/a so i stayed 3.8. Mine made 187rwkw before my latest (2 weeks ago) rebuild.

You have some good ideas there though... have a sus of my ride thread fo more details/ ideas if you wish

Edit... Here's the link Gilbs' custom VS

yea i wouldnt go throwing 1.98 rockers AND a stage 2 cam in the same motor because too much lift = cheesed engines.

not always mate. you can just tell em what ratio the rockers are and they can get a cam ground to suit. not brain surgery

so thats where if u desperately want roller rockers u could just go for the cheaper stock ratio roller rocker and have the cam ground bigger to suit.
my VRs cam is as big as will fit thru the journals but i can now only go a stock ratio roller due to being at near max valve lift already

I dont know why people just go for big cam lift.It just stresses the valve train components heaps for no reason. You are much better off getting a cam ground that holds the valves open slightly longer (longer duration) and using less lift.

yeah i wasnt going to go with an insane cam i was getting a cam from mace to suit the rockers so that the two will work with each other and the engine.

Dont bother with the NA cam grind if you are going FI later on, you will need a specific FI cam grind.

Also, dont bother getting a chip with your cam if you are dyno tuning.

If you're capable of doing the work yourself - the 8.5g's you've written up for engine/auto parts will buy and fit a stock LS1 with auto......
or you could even just turbo the stock motor...

either way will be much better value fo rmoney....
