Default Vr V6 rebuild after big end bearing failure

Ive got a v6 v6 motor here that has spun a bearing and ended up with shavings in the sump

my question is once the bearings explode like that do bits of it normally get in the bore and score it

just wondering whether its worth pulling the crank out getting it linished and over size bearings put it in , anything else worth doing or looking at while im there dont want to hot it up just fix it up as a spare engine

    hahah been there.

Chances are the bores will be as sweet (or not ) as they were before it spun a big end - however there is every chance that it has picked up on and scored the crank journal, also i'd be having a real hard look + accurately measure the bigend bore of the rod. Bottom line is you're most likely up for a crank grind on the bigends at least, possibly a close & hone on the rods - and thats a full teardown, depending on how keen you are and the size of your pockets it might be worth pricing up a full reco vs. picking up a 2nd hand runner

    thanks for the info vnracer
just didnt know if it was common for the bearing shavings to go up into the bores

guess the motors stuffed anyway, so best bet might be to pull it down and have a close look at it

its the motor that was in the car, i bought it knowing the bearings were stuffed if since put a 2nd hand one in
was just thinking of fixing this up as a spare its only a matter of time before the ones in the second hand motor go i think
but as you say depends on what type of $$$$ i need to spend

    thanks again

i would say about 5000 grand will get you a good engine

my first quote fo a short block is at 2000 but i want torque plate honing and tunnle boring and a crank reco so im looking at about 3500 now the heads will be 1500 so about 5000 but im sure ill find an extra 3000 of other things i want
