Id check to see if there are any vacuum hoses around the engine bay that have been bumped and disconnected when you were cleaning the engine bay. Also run a diagnostic check to see if any engine sensors etc show up an error code..Heres a link to a post that shows how to do an error code check. Its easy and only takes a couple of minutes to do.

only coded is 35 - idle speed error which has been around since i bought the car last year...all vacuum hoses connected and secure

An Idle speed error can also be a sign of a vacuum leak somewhere. The brake booster can cause vacuum leaks,it might be worth checking. Also check the vacuun hose is connected to the vacuum reserve tank under the left front guard behind the bumper.(black ball looking thing),Some people dont know its there,or what it is.You can also try getting some carby or throttle body cleaner and cleaning the IAC passage in the throttle body. They can get clogged up.Other than that,it could be anything causing it to run crook.Low fuel pressure from a stuffed fuel pump, blocked fuel filter or stuffed fuel pressure regulator.A bad ignition module or coil.Plugs and leads.Id also go over any main connections in the wiring harness under the bonnet, and unplug, and plug them in again,to make sure its not a bad electrical connection somewhere. Also the dissy,it has a sensor inside it called a hall effect sensor,it can cause problems when it gets old worn out and sometimes wont set an error code either.
Did you degrease with a high pressure water spray or just use a garden hose? High pressure water spray can get inside sensor connectors and cause problems. Also check PCV valve connections and IAC connection. Some injector cleaner may also help.
was a garden hose
dropped the car off at a mechanic as i need this fixed asap....
so much has gone wrong with the clubby in the last two months that i dont even care anymore...its just been one thing after another!!
just want it fixed and driving properly again.

thanks for everyones help....brett you were spot on ended up being a vacuum leak at the brake booster and also at the rear manifold seal...leaking quite bad....car feels more torquey no the vacuum is spot on and fuel consumption is back to normal i think
