Hey everyone, got a bit of a frustrating dillemma here. Bought some "reco" VT injectors off ebay, had a good at fitting them today got the plenum etc off all good replaced all seals, cleaned it replaced the TPS, etc fitted new injectors, o-rings, etc - all seemed to be well.
so it's all backtogether and lo and behold it cranks but will not start, we tried for ages differnt things resetting the ecu, etc. there is definitely fuel reaching the injectors but whether they are firing or not I dont know. also replaced the PCV.
So either:
1. Faulty injectors or incompatible with VS computer (I dont think they are incompatible they should run fine, I ran a set of these in my VR with no troubles)
2. Faulty or misaligned TPS or something
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Also my genius mate dropped a bolt into one of the bloody cylindersso we've pulled the plenum off again and looking for a magnet to get it out with. Definitely not ideal.

so there all plugged in properly with the clips on them, they should work, when you changed the TPS did you make sure the spacer was installed correctly with it? there is a little piece of plastic that slots in with it.
how the hell did he drop a bolt in the cylinder? Through the runners? What a muppet!
Did he drop the bolt in there before or after you tried to crank it?
If after you've probably got some munted valves there buddy.
Have alook around the engine bay, I'd say you either missed a plug or knocked something loose.
When I did my injectors on a VL I had last year it took a lot for it to start.
Guys thanks for the replies, appreciate it. Haha , yep down the inlet manifold but he got it out. I was pissed to say the least.
Yes we checked everything over and over, the spacer in the TPS was in, everything seemed to be plugged in properly etc. is there anyway I can test if the new injectors work? we put everything back together and put the old injectors back in. we started it and it ran terrible!! roughest i've ever seen it run, took it round the block drove fine. idled terrible. This morning started it seemed ok, the revs went a bit further up than they used to 1.5k then back down it never used to go up much at all. Then it randomly started running rough again and the engine light came on so I just gave up and left it at home got the girlfriend to pick me up lol.
Any ideas guys or should I just forget it and take it to a mechanics.
cheers
EDIT: bought the TPS brand new from repco, could there be an issue there? don' think its genuine

you didn't mess with the iac, that can give you bad idle, you might need to reset it.
sounds like you have either a vacum leak after your throttle body
= to check this try spraying some brake/or/carby cleanerr around all the joints you took off in the process if it changes the idle when you spray in a certain spot you found a leak (do this at idle obviousy)
the tps is touchy if installed incorrectly once you use idle and full throttle would probably turn the engine light on
and then i agree with soop you have probably bent a valve or at least damaged the valve seat probably found your bolt wedged near the valve didnt ya?
so if old injectors dont fix the problem as you said BUT DID CHANGE HOW IT RAN i would guess vacum leak
if not valve jobs ahoy!~
surely there would be no bent valves etc because we pulled it apart and got the bolt out before starting or cranking the car?
Vac leak I guessed thanks for the idea on finding it!! TPS installation could be making it put engine light on, it shouldn't be that complicated to install!!

Sounds silly but did you definitely install the tps properly? You've got to slip it over the plastic tab then twist it 30 degrees so you can bolt it in.
Also check with a multimeter that you are actually getting injector pulse. Check you're getting spark too.
This is the way I installed the TPS which is currently semi-working now. Put the plastic bit on, slipped the TPS on then had to turn it clockwise until the screwholes lined up. I'm wondering if there may be a dodgy wiring connection? I had a look at the adapter but it looks ok.
Can someone confirm that the VS ecu will actually work with VT VX injectors? I kinda assumed it wouldn't be a problem since they went in my VR fine... or will I need a tune before they will work at all?
EDIT: Just to clear this up the car IS running with old injectors back in, however we did fiddle around with TPS, IAC, etc a bit. Is there an easy way to check if the injectors work with the VS ecu? maybe just plug one in then start the car see if its firing?

the injectors could be of a differnt impeadence so they might not be opening all the way but i would of thought they would work from ecotec to ecotec but i do know holden changed the fuel rails on vt II onwards and they had differnt injectors
What did you hope to gain from different injectors anyway?
my VR ran so much better with those in, I was planning to get a tune for them almost immediately after putting them in.

My VL ran rough after changeing the injectors so I gave wynns a try and it fixed the problem for me.

The tps should be installed 30 degrees clockwise past the screw holes then turned back to the screw holes and tightened up, this puts some pressure on spring and allows it to work properly. Bob.
yes it sounds like you have done it backwards, I have just installed one and thats the instructions from gregorys, Bob.

You should get a gregorys workshop manual for your car,theres all sorts of handy little tips like that in it.
I have an ellerys its useless. Not sure where to find gregorys, but a mate of mine who lives round the corner has one. Good news, got off the train to night started her up and wow. Drives amazing, i have no idea why its decided to work now lol.
Maybe the injectors had crap in them which was cleaned out after some use. Either way I will try and find some reco VS injectors to replace them, I don't think the VT ones are faulty at all I think our problem was installing a new TPS and just general foolishness and lack of knowledge.
Anyone want a set of reco VT injectors?

the injectors swap from vt is not normal thing to do as its cheap to get your injectors cleaned these days and they come to you!~
tps should give you with a multimeter (approximately)
closed=0.65volts closed
full=5.0 volts
not sure which wires on the tps to backprobe to check this but yeah this is what you should get if you had a data display...
following info on loan from a mates gr****'s manual
"injectors =VT - VY N/A, 09-97 to 06-03, uses injector number 0280-155-777 which flows 150 GPM @ 3.5 BAR. Resistance 12 Ω.
VT - VY injectors are what is classed as an EV-6 injector which uses a multi orifice director plate style technology to better atomise fuel across various operating pressures. These injectors allow more flexibility in relation to operating pressures without compromising spray efficiency or fuel atomisation."
injector resistance vs=VN series 2, 11-90 to 10-91 uses injector number 028-0150-960 which flows 150.5 GPM @ 3 BAR. Resistance 14.5 Ω. (THESE APPARENTLY ARE ALSO IN VP VS ETC)
The VN - VR injectors are what is classed as an EV-1 injector pintle type which are open to problems when used at an incorrect fuel pressure, hosing is a problem if pressure is too low or too high and the pattern can also be forced too wide for the target area if pressure is too high.
Thanks for the very useful information, I will be chasing up some reco VS injectors.

too easy mate i try not too go "in depth" without researching my info so thats the best i could find in the grapevine today ;0 hope it helps ya out!~
