hey guys,
I cant get the strut upper mount off. Ive got a rattle gun, but i dont think its powerful enough or the nut is very tightly on. any suggestions?
Follow my how to: East Coast Commodores
Soak it in WD-40 then attack it with the rattle gun. If that fails gently heat it with a torch then rattle gun again.
if you talking about the nut in the engine bay it is a locking nut so it will be hard to undo
the rattle gun needs more air flow how big is the hose on your compresser this will be the problem of the rattle gun
You can undo them with a spanner and socket.
Nuts sieze, its a fact of life. Doesnt make the owner of the car stupid or anything.
Try a stilson wrench, or just a pair of vice grips on the shock to hold it so it wont just spin freely, and a tube socket and your rattle gun on the top nut.
If that fails, slip a bit of pipe over a flex bar.
Or just go to pickapart and get another strut.
the commo strut nuts dont usally sieze but i guess if you are close to the sea then they can
loctite make a product called freeze n release i think got some at work i broke 3 kingchrome breaker bars (one with a 2.5m 30x5 shs section on it) trying to get a bolt out of an oven gave it a blast with this stuff and worked a treat
