Hey guys, i'm new here,
just got a few questions regarding a VR
Whilst in selector gears (1, 2, 3) it does not have ANY engine braking like it used to do (actually happened this morning, was working fine when i was driving this morning, crapped itself after being parked for 2 hours)
When in those gears, the engine will freely rev until the input rpm of the engine matches the gear speed in the gearbox, then suddenly jolts when the speeds match, so im wondering could this me a torque converter that wont spin in reverse .. i.e its running in a single direction, not both like it was this morning. Lifting your foot in gear simply results in the engine idling even travelling at 100km/h.
Sorry if this reposts, The first one wouldnt show up :S
Thanks,
MaFaLu
mine does the same thing, i thought the bloke before me had done something to the torque converter, i will look into it
Ive done some looking, and it seems to be some sort of clutch, but after talking to a mate that's a mechanic he seems to think it could also be a valve stuck in the transmission thats not allowing it to overrun. He said removing the valve body and checking it could be an option, so im going to service it and look into it more.
Thanks,
MaFaLu
Im sure Ive read on here somewhere before that this is a sign of either something broken or worn out inside the trans.
Yeah it does still engine brake in fourth gear i found (not much but moch more than other gears) and it seems strange mine happened after i left the car parked .. im gonna take a look at it some time this weekend hopefully so ill be ok ... hopefully :\
p.s its done 200,000 Kms and box is still very strong, so im hoping nothing major .. seems a waste to throw out a good transmission.
Are you getting any error codes up at all.---Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)---
Nah already checked that, got 12 - so all clear.
I will do some searching,Im sure Ive read it on here, but I cant remember exactly what the asnwer was.It was definitely the same problem as you guys have though.
Ok would be much appreciated, i had a look here but i couldnt seem to find much.
Ive been reading through a few things, even tried google, and I can find bugger all on the subject except one post where someone mentions a overrun clutch failure in the auto trans can cause this problem.I wouldnt even know if the the 4L60E trans had one of these.Sorry mate, I hope someone else on here can help further.cheers.
Yeah thats what i was meaning by the clutch failure a few posts back, and aparently the american version of the 4L60E had one so i see no different (as its all GM) so ill have to see if i can fix it up. Thanks for you help anyway, much appreciated![]()
