hi i have a vs statesman and the other day the engine light came on and gear box was clunking into 1st and 2nd gear took it to get fixed and they replaced the pressure solanoid switch in gearbox this fixed the problem but the next day the problem returned does anyone know if it could be anything else causing this problem
Take it straight back to the place where you got it fixed, and tell them it was good for a day,but started to do the same thing again, get them to check it all out again, the part they fitted could be faulty..Especially seeing it was all good for a while after they had fixed it
yea booked back in 4 wednesday they gonna replace it again at there cost of course so will see how it goes
You could be smart and run the error codes check: Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised) it's very easy to do and will possibly tell you exactly what is wrong with the transmission. Just be careful they don't find "other problems" when they replace the pressure solenoid which is the reason I recommend you check for error codes so you are pre-armed. (most trans blokes are 100% honest by the way, just a few cowboys about to watch out for)

yea will give it a go wouldnt they have picked up on anything else when they fixed it the 1st time i also had the gearbox serviced while it was there so im hoping its just a faulty solanoid that they put on heres hoping
Problem is that it may not have been the faulty servo in the first place - many transmission faults do not occur continuously..they may only fail intermittently under certain circumstances. I had the 2/3 solenoid fail which turned the engine light on, turned car off for 5 mins and disconnected battery and then it was OK for a few weeks till it re-appeared so I figured that even though it was not there all the time it would eventually fail permanently so had it replaced. In your case they would have read the fault codes, figured it was the line pressure solenoid, reset the codes and replaced the solenoid which fixed it for a day or two but then it reappeared, which may well mean that the cause was not the line pressure solenoid but something else, but of course I'm only guessing. Hopefully it is only the solenoid gone bad, but the point I'm trying to make is to be prepared that it may entail further work. If your have faith in your trans mechanics then you have to go by what they say and I must admit that I've never had any problems although you do hear of cowboys. If it's a busy shop, clean and well run, with friendly staff then you are off to a good start. Anyways, I hope it turns out well.
Good Luck.

Try your TPS it is a commom cause of gearbox shift problems and it will can make the check engine light come on
on the transmission thread mine slips on the first to second and second to third change but it only does it occasionally and sometimes even under hard acceleration it is fine so could it just be the solenoids or just the start of serious problem requiring a rebuild?? oh its a vs ss with a 5hbd.
Check you've got the fluid level correct - not over or under filled....it shouldn't be the change solenoids as they just redirect the flow of oil to the servos which clamp the clutches tight.....unless it's the fluid level I'd start thinking about a new transmission however first I'd service the transmission - new oil and filter which you can do yourself for under $100 or pay to get it done for 2 or 3 times more.

ok got car fixed today they replaced the solanoid again and they said that if it happens again then to go to electrician as it will be a problem with wireing harness
ok just an update the light come back on 2 days after getting it fixed so went to auto electrician they said my alternator was the problem so they replaced that and problem solved so really there was probably nothing wrong with the pressure solanoid but these things happen.
