Hey, I have a 94 VR Calais and when I start it, it has a 'annoying', loud knocking noise that cycles round and round if that makes sense. Never had this trouble before. Any ideas what it could be?
Cheers,

wer is th sound comin frm tho
Harmonic balancer?
+1 for more info.
If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?
Listen to all the pullys on the front of the engine, i would be going with a bearing somewhere. My tensioners bearing makes a tapping sound every so often.
Could also be a shot engine mount allowing the engine/exhaust to make contact with the body. I'd try and rock the engine by hand to see if it has any side to side movement, also have the bonnet up whilst someone else starts the engine so you can locate the exact source of the knock. Also critical is the frequency of this knock - the harmonic balancer rotates at ~700rpm or over 10 times a second.

its coming under the bonnet. Im thinking its something in the engine. Don't know much bout it though
could be power steering pump on its way out. My VS made a similar noise until i replaced that pump. check it for leaks too.
