im looking to get a bit more power out ov my 3.8ltr ecotec in my vs. was looking and getting a standard superhcarger from a vt along wit heads, wireing loom, injectors ect. i was just wondering how much more power i would get is it worth it or just a waist of money that could be spent on other mods.
Stock chargers if im correct only had about 15% increase in power. I don't know how they effected 0-100 compared to a N/A but the charged versions ive seen certainly are not worth bragging about. If you get one look into a higher boost pulley (smaller diameter)
If your wanting to supercharge then try get the complete motor not just the top half (Id say better to keep them as a unit) and then you allways have a running motor in the shed, But as said above you prob wont be that happy with the gain unless you do a bit of work like pully size for boost and headers and intake and make sure to get a good tune and not a (off the shelf) job.
The top end swap can be done, but in the long run it will cost you more than getting an complete engine.
You can pick up L67's (supercharged six) anywhere from 1500 to $2500.
Look at it this way, your N/A 3.8 produces Maximum power: 147 kW @ 5200 RPM Maximum torque: 304 Nm @ 3600 RPM.
The VT L67 produces Maximum power: 171 kW @ 5200 RPM (on PULP (Premium Unleaded) Maximum torque: 375 Nm @ 3000 RPM (on PULP)).
To gain that amount of power and torque from your existing engine, it will cost you far more that the cost of the transplant.
When you do things right, people won’t be sure you’ve done anything at all,,,,,,,,,
