had a little bit of a short in the interior light today. I have replaced the holder and got around to installing a new head lining while "FIXING" this problem. Now I have a nice micro suede headlining and an interior light that lights up manually but not automaticlly. i.e. i can get it to turn on with the switch on the light switch but other wise they are not working.
Have i cooked the timer / relay or what? advice apperciated as multi meter is dead and it's been a long day LOL

Sounds like a fuse....however, do it tomorrow. See what else has lost power and go from there....tomorrow.

yeah no fuses blown and the lights work when you throw the manual switch

This is a real common problem in the VR/VS. Have been told this is controlled by your BCM as when you look your doors the light is meant to go off, or turn off after a period of time which I'm assuming the BCM is controlling as your key also communicates with your BCM.
If it's not a Symptom its not relevant, and if its not relevant I don't care!
Hopefully it's not the BCM as Mumboman suggests as that will mean a new BCM and keys to match...very expensive.
Try pulling one of the door switches and see if there is power there - I'd say no but it's worth a try. Otherwise I'd bypass the BCM and basically hotwire it.

The wiring diagram in the workshop manual shows that the BCM is definitely connected in with the interior lights and door switches. All the door switches go to the BCM only on the low series BCM's,a different wire then goes from the BCM to the interior lights. Whereas on the mid and high level BCM's, it shows the wiring goes to/from both the BCM and straight to the interior lights from the door switches.
mines the equipe (class 2 BCM) gunna wire it up like a vh etc. I have put elwire lighting in the doors and it is causing radio interfernce with the key zapping the central locking any how.
