hi all, new to this forum & have a question regarding the trans in my v6 vr, its a 4hdd almost 290k slips heavily under medium acceleration, i hear you all saying- your trans is stuffed lol i know i can replace it with a 5hdd or higher however & here comes the question will an ecotec ie:-vs trans fit? i have been told varying conflicting things like a statesman trans wont work even a vr one yet also been told a vt one will work so you can understand my confusion & asking an auto specialst, only results in bring it in we will pull it down & have a look, which is not really an option being a disabled pensioner couple ($ are scarce lol) so any help regards what trans are compatible would be very much appreciated, we can then start looking seriously at replacing it, or if anyone has a good one available at a reasonable price
much thanks in advance
the vs vt wont fit diffrent bell housing and wireing try to find the one u have in it u can get them cheap enough
Welcome to the forum.
VS will not fit without wiring modifications - best and safest bet is to stick with a 4HDD (or even a 3HDD - both are VR specific) ) and the reason is primarily that you know it will fit plus the box you buy will probably already been overhauled in it's past life. Also check the "Similar Threads" section (scroll to the bottom of this page). You should have no problem finding a second hand one for about $300 or $400 either privately or a wrecker....it's a bit of a risk but the option is $2000 for a reco. Have you tried some "stop Slip" in the trans? - can sometimes help temporarily. Good Luck.
(VS are 5HDD 6HDD and 7HDD)

Apparently all the boxes will all bolt up fine to either motor, but the electrical connectors are different. The VR has 12 pins, the VS has 13 pins in its connector.Im only going on what Ive read on here. Not from actual experience. So this may not be completely right.
Also what I've heard, VR-VS have a removable bellhousing, and VT onwards have non removable bellhousing, which is why people who put a VT Box in their VS/VR for example always have to grind the housing to clear manifolds as it cant be taken off
