Default Belt length indicator on tensioner pulley?

    Kia ora from New Zealand.

I recently bought a VR Commodore Acclaim wagon (the object of all my affection) and I am currently in the process of sussing out what has been done and what needs to be done in the way of servicing.

Looking in the manual, it talks about the left hand end of the quadrant on the belt length indicator. Now, looking at the tensioner itself, it's not really obvious which end would be called "left", as the indicator is more vertical than horizontal.

My question is, which way does the belt length indicator arrow travel as the belt stretches/wears? Is it towards the tensioner pulley or away from the tensioner pulley?

    Thanks in advance :-)

If you look at the length indicator, theres a line nearer to one end of the scale. It moves toward that.If its on this line or has gone past it into the last section of the indicator, the belt is considered worn out,and should be replaced. Also look for small cracks on the ribbed side of the belt where it goes around the water pump, small cracks showing is also a good indicator that the belt should be replaced.

    - so you're saying that it moves from the outer end of the 3/4 "segment" towards the 1/4 "segment", kind of like a fuel gauge? That's what I thought, thanks for confirming :-D
