Default my mate's vr's got a fuel problem

hey all i just swapped a motor in my mate's vr and its not going yet sounds like there is no noise from the fuel tank, just wondering if there is any way of testing the loom to see if the fuel pump works just dont want to have to swap the pump out

Check the fuel pump fuse which is in the fuse box under the bonnet .Also check the fuel pump relay which is located around the same place as the fuse.If everything checks out ok,then this might seem a bit weird, but it definitely works, what happens is the fuel pump can become stuck and wont run if the car hasnt been driven or started for a while.(a few weeks).Whilst winding over the engine, get someone to hit the bottom of the fuel tank with a rubber mallet or a block of wood or whatever. This can jolt the pump into unsticking and running again. If this proves to be the case, then Id be replacing the fuel pump soon.It will probably fail completely.

The violet wire is the +12V power wire to the pump so you could check to see if power is going to that wire when the ignition is switched on - this will only be for 2 seconds or so to prime the system, then there is no power in that wire till the engine starts or you switch to off then go to ignition again.
You could also run +12V directly to the violet wire (behind rear seat from boot on drivers side) and see if the engine starts, if it does then figure out why it's not getting power - fuse/relay/immobiliser.
    Good Luck.

While talkin about fuel, you should also change the fuel fillter, not hard and are pretty cheap, i got one from supercheap for about $9.

$30 for a fuel filter for a commodore.Jeez,Ive never paid that for one.Around $10-$15 .And I live in the middle of nowhere, where things are usually more expensive.

If you take out the fuel pump relay and bridge the normally open contact terminals in the relay base this will apply 12 volts to the fuel pump all the time if the fuse is not blown. Best way to check is to remove the relay and put a multimeter into the 2 sockets in the realy base that connect accross the relays normally open contacts. If the fuse is OK then one of these sockets will have 12 volts on it, then bridge them out and the pump should run. If it doesn't start give the fuel tank a bit of a hit with a ruber hammer. If it doesn't run get under the car and check for 12 volts at the plug and socket going to the fuel pump, if there's power then the wiring is fine you need to replace the fuel pump. I'd get a genuine one last one I bought cost me just over $100 with a cork gasket.
