    Default Immobiliser - not starting

Hi everyone well the ute finally passed a blue slip and I've been driving it around today. One small problem I have is the engine light came on with code 31.

Would a near dead battery cause this fault?

The remote works fine although when starting the car it sometime will not crank at all and I need to hit the unlock button before it starts. Also I've noticed that if I unlock the car put the key to accessories but not start it and leave it for a period of time, the Immobiliser seems to activate again and not allow the car to start.

Sounds pretty normal - code 31 can come up for many reasons and usually goes away by itself or disconnecting the battery. The need to press the unlock button to crank is also not unknown ....check when you put the key in the ignition it is fully pressed in so the keyhead makes good contact with the reader (the silver ring around keyhole)

It appears to be contacting with the key reader although I have a spare one so I might try that.
I also got a new key for it so I might use the new key and see if I have any troubles with it.

Hey mate I have the same problem with my immobaliser. From when I unlock the car with the remote I've got about 3 mins or so to either put the key in and turn it on the reds or start the car. I havent had a problem doing this but it does become a problem if the batteries in the key head die or i have to use my other key which is missing the buttons...

My keyhead also makes good contact with the rings around the barrel so If anyone can provide a fix to this I' sure there will be at least 2 people that will be very grateful

I tried a new key I got made and it did the same thing so it ruled out a flat battery.
What I did discover though (correct me if I'm wrong) is the key reader needs to be put in so that when the key is turned to the on position (dash lights lit) it needs to be making contact with the reader for it to switch the immobiliser off.

I had my whole dash etc apart and when I put the key reader in I just put it in any old way so it ended up that the key reader was contacting with the key at the off and accessories position but not really the on position. Give that a go.

I hadnt thought of that I only ever checked it when i first put it into the barrel.

I'll give it a go when the rain eases off a bit.

I have also put in a push button start a little while ago so i dunno if thats got something to do with it or not. Although I'm pretty sure everything was fine after i did it...
    Cheers mate

The gregorys manual says "that code 31 will set when the BCM (theft deterrent circuit) does not return a signal the ECU to permit operation of the injectors. When this code is set, there will be a one second delay in starter motor operation after turning the ignition key to the start position."

Are you a hundred percent sure it's the immobiliser causing this to happen? Try putting the car in Reverse and starting it, instead of Park.

My problem was the immobiliser and ket reader not setup right.

So when I unlocked the car using the remote, it disable the immobiliser for about 30 seconds. If it wasnt started during that time I'd have to press the unlock button.
Now Ive got the key reader positioned right, if the security light is flashing and I turn the key to the "on" position, the security light goes out allowing it to start as normal.
