    Default dramas with my vr

Ok so I pulled my fuel tank out and replaced the broken return line to the swirl pot inside the tank (using my 12 yr old sons small hands) using factory parts and new cork gasket on my fuel sender I depressurised the lines before taking the sender out by unplugging the wiring to the pump and starting the car and letting it stall...after I reinstalled everything, put in 20 litres...no start not even a cough ....you could hear the pump prime.....put in another 20 litres...still no start and I tried a few times.....took off the pump high pressure side hose at the sender unit...dry......ran a hose from it in a bucket....fuel came out fine when I turned the key to prime...put it back on ...tried again...no start......took the fuel line off to the damper under the bonnet and hit the key fuel poured out here too...put it back on and turned the key it started and ran straight away....hasnt stopped and now it runs fine....drives fine ....can anyone explain what just happenned? Will my car stop again ...is there some part that is probably faulty that I should replace before it goes again?

Sounds like it just had some air trapped in it somewhere ,stopping the pump from priming properly .It probably purged it out when you undid the fuel lines.

    +1 for an air lock.

Seems odd though. I've never had to prime a pump after removing it.

Maybe due to fitting the pump to dead empty tank?

Never totally understood the concept of the return line or how it could affect the level of fuel in the swirl pot after the car gets below 1/4 full but this info from a vk efi manual explains how it works pretty simply
