    Default Alternator bracket

    Hey all

Just try to install a 120 amp alternator on a VS s1 V8 and from what i can see the bracket wont take it, from what ive been told it should be a straight swap, so i was wondering if there is different bracket i need or do i have the wrong alternator

My VS Calais has an 120 amp alternator installed (not by me personally) and my VS Clubsport has a standard 85 amp alternator installed. I'll have a look at them tomorrow morning and post some pictures if other posts haven't answered your questions.

The fact that the connections are in a different spot makes me think you may have the wrong one.

In your picture 2 the connection on the alternator looks OK. You only need to use the front part for the connection not the rear part. The only other connection is for the adjustment bracket. I couldn't get good pictures but here is what the standard and 120amp look like:

Thanks BlackVXGTS by the look of you photo compaired to mine it looks like that alternator i have is the wrong one, i would have to cut off the back bracket on the alternator and file down the front one for it to even fit.

I think your alternator is fine provided it's a BXH1250 (or a BXH1253 with the pulley swapped over from a rib to a v-pulley). Looking at a number of posts via Google, the alternator will not fit without either cutting about 20mm off the rear bracket (which was probably done to my Calais), or cutting the rear mounting lug off the alternator as in the attached picture. The picture also demonstrates how much you would have to remove from the rear bracket for the alternator to fit without modification. Modifying the alternator means that you will still be able to install an old model alternator in future if that's necessary, but would most likely have a problem in the event of a warranty claim.
