hi, i have to replace my starter motor, a mechanic came today and started the car by tapping, the main big positive from behind the exhaust manifold near the steering arm... i need to start it to get to my mates to change the starter motor but cant find this lead he was tapping... anyone have a link or picture or anything that could help?
Id say he was tapping the solenoid on the starter motor. Its the thing the wiring goes to on the starter.Tapping it while someone tries to start the car can sometimes be enough to get it started if the starter solenoid is faulty.Ive had to do this a few times over the years to get going when the starter s--t itself...
the starter is a pain in the butt to get too... he was tapping the other side of the motor but il try get to the starter see where it gets me...
You can get at it better/easier from underneath the car.Just crawl under a bit, near the passenger side front door.
the f-head mechanic wouldnt know what he was doing, he was telling me he was tapping the main positive to the starter. i couldnt find it and put a shifter down near whhere he told me it was and it started... changed the starter motor and same thing, put the the shifter back there and it started again....lol so i hooked up a jumper cable to the motor and the other end to the chasis and started first go.... made up a earth wire and running again.... what a stuff around... now off to the aoto electrician in a couple days...
think the main earth has come undone in the loom somewhere, the auto electrician sain wouldnt worry too much about it as the earth i put in is doing the job... might follow it down the loom in a couple weeks and fix it up properly... got me a shot injector so got to replace them this week.. lol
